Neutralizing monoclonal antibodies are a game-changer in fighting this disease, according to the doctor.
Prior to the treatment's availability, if someone tested positive for COVID-19 but wasn’t severe enough to be hospitalized, that person then isolated at home.
"Now we can say we actually have something that can decrease your risk of hospitalization and improve your chances of survival if you have features that place you at risk for progressing on to more advanced forms of COVID-19," said Dr. Robert Gottlieb with the Baylor Scott & White Research Institute.
This comes as hospitals and ICUs are facing another surge, with low amounts of staffed ICU beds available for the Austin-region.
Gottlieb said this treatment can not only help people get better faster but also help hospitals out too.
[A]s of now, patients get the antibody treatment through an IV. However, researchers are testing out using shots instead, with the hope of making the antibodies more widely available.
Dr. Gottlieb said the treatments aren't available for everyone just yet. He said to talk with a health care provider to find out if you qualify.

Wasn’t this part of Trump’s treatment?
This means that the emergency authorization for mRna jabs should be rescinded, right?
Why this bigger news ?
“ DeSantis announced the launch of a rapid response team to expand the use of monoclonal antibody treatments for COVID-19 patients. DeSantis touted the effectiveness of the monoclonal antibody treatment in a press conference “
DeSantis should be hailed for a proactive response to this situation!
My wife and I both had it before it had a name and I have the IgG and IgM antibodies to prove it.
But there are Branch Covidians who would demand that I get vaccinated because shut up.
Gov. DeSantis just set up several “Rapid response stations” where people can get this treatment - without having to be referred by a doctor.
“But there are Branch Covidians who would demand that I get vaccinated because shut up.”
Unfortunately, we have some here on FR. People on this site should know better.
Yes, and it’s very expensive, or at least it was at that time.

I think you must be referring to Rimdesiver. The monoclonal antibody transfusion is less so and I heard covered by insurance or the government.
No, it was the antibodies, but possibly it has come down in cost.
Found this:
Medicare pays for the administration of
monoclonal antibody products to treat
COVID-19. For example, beginning on May
6, 2021, Medicare will pay approximately
$450 in most settings, or approximately $750
in the beneficiary’s home or residence, for
the administration of certain monoclonal
antibody products4 to treat COVID-19. For
monoclonal antibody products to treat
COVID-19 that are administered before May
6, 2021, the Medicare payment rate in all
settings is approximately $310
IIRC y’all had it early last year/late 2019?
I had it early March last year.
Gonna get IgG and Tcell tests.
January/February 2020.
Lenzilumab is way better. Also has no side effects. All phase testing completed. Its sits there waiting for EUA approval. They dont know what to do as there are no side effects and the results were too good. It was kept on the low low, but I believe Trump took it.
Wouldn’t you have to go to the hospital to have that done?
Later.
He was young...but massively obese. More than likely had heart issues....too.
Of course I'm up in the guy's grill...he get's intubated...surprising easy. Usually big people are not easy to tube.
We worked on him for 50 min.
Was offered monoclonal antibody treatment the next day...if I wanted it.
I told them I'd wait...I've had the 19...I'm sure of it.
Probably...or a clinic. It’s an I.V. and takes around an hour.
