“Who the heck wears watches any more?”
Lots of people. It’s a piece of jewelry. And in the case of Rolex, it’s a status symbol.

Who the heck wears watches any more?I do. Nothing expensive, but I like being able to easily glance at my wrist to see the time. It's particularly helpful while driving. Also, I think of time in terms of a clock face. I like to see the entire hour and all the hours of the day on one face. Digital timepieces only show me the existing minute and second.

At some point, replacing electronics and batteries began to bore and finally really irritate me. When I realized I just needed to reasonably know the time, I got a mechanical watch. No batteries, 15+ years of service, visible in the dark, day+date, 100 bucks.
Got rid of the pocket-spy 8 years ago.
Now I laugh at people who walk around like zombies staring into those things that run their lives. China’s really got America’s number with these things, too, and that’s not so funny.

Not all of us want to carry the cellphone everywhere. When I am using the phone, I sometimes like being able to check the time without moving away from my round of Stratego.

Who the heck wears watches any more? Every cellphone has a clock more accurate than any watch ever made. A lot of people that work with their hands, or outside, or in conditions that it would not be a good idea to pull out your expensive phones. You probably wouldn’t be wearing a Rolex, but maybe these old guys wore watches out of habit or to be ostentatious.

For people that actually work with their hands and tools, it’s much easier to rotate your wrist to see what time it is rather than putting down a tool, cleaning off your hands, then digging in your pocket or carrier then pushing a button to see what time it is. If you’re just sitting at a desk and your hands are clean and usually not holding or operating sometimes heavy tools you may have a point.

People do not wear Rolex watches primarily to tell time, just like ladies do not wear Hermes (or whatever that make is) to carry their coins.

For me, it is the same as owning a Shop Smith: one motor does it all. You just have to reconfigure the thing all the time during a project. I prefer to have a lathe with its own motor, a drill press with its own motor, a table saw with its own motor, and so on.
Phones are like the Shop Smith, all of the eggs in one basket.
My watch doesn't need to be recharged every two or three days. My calculator can handle negative exponents. It goes on and on.

I carry a 1924 Elgin pocket watch and wear suspenders, so I’ve got that going for me.

Does the cellphone really have a clock, or does it just report an accurate time, such as GPS time?

I wear a relatively cheap Casio which is solar powered and checks/corrects the time every night with a satellite connection. Unlike a cellphone it recharges itself, weighs less and doesn’t need to be retrieved from my pocket to show the time.

Who the heck wears watches any more? I do. I work in a secure area where cells are verboten. Need a watch when I'm in meetings in rooms with no clocks.
