A thought provoking article that covers all bases. Already won the gold. Owes nothing to her white teammates or the white power structure that was so proud of her accomplishments. An American ornament just like Tiger Woods in golf. Now it's payback.

I'm just waiting for black players drop out of the Super Bowl en masse. They've already earned their millions. Is a Super Bowl ring more important than one's dignity? Guess it depends on how one defines it. It's gonna be awesome.

Man, I remember watching Flo Jo back in 1988 just demolish her opponents and there was none of that "she's black!" crap then. She was as American as apple pie.

All blacks today are doing is digging their graves. They're going to be so woke that whites and other blacks will turn their backs on them and they'll segregate themselves right back into misery and despair. Probably what white leftists want anyway.

I can think of lots of things Black people say “no” to, since the “Great Society” was launched by Lyndon Johnson.

I’m fine with her saying no, if she doesn’t feel up to a performance that could break her neck. She should say no.

People don’t have to make it a racial thing.

If I was a gymnast, the thing that would throw me off is a serious distraction, such as an illness, a financial or legal problem, a lady friend problem, etc.

Who gives a damned? I don’t. I could give a rat’s tit less what any of these people do. The grand majority of them blow their money before they are 50 and wind up broke or barely making it, going to autograph sessions all over the country to pose for photos and sign their worthless names to make a few bucks. Only the smart ones put it away, knowing there is life after their sport and the need to make a future. I wonder just how many of NFL players who signed for the millions are now broke? Same for the NBA and MLB. MLB probably has a better chance of keeping money as they tend to have longer careers if they are any good and their entire contracts are guaranteed. But, in the end, I don’t give a damned. I don’t watch any of these sports any more. I barely watch any college football anymore. If I want to watch a sport, I go to a local high school game. I played ball from the time I was 8 until I retired from the Army at age 41. I was a sports official for over 25 years, calling basketball, football, baseball, softball, soccer, etc. I called hundreds and hundreds of games over the years. All I got out of it was two knee replacements, bad hips (running up and down hardwood basketball courts are murder on joints), and two back surgeries with spinal fusion. Yup, sports are grand! Not in my eyes anymore. I was flipping through the channels this a.m. and saw a clip of the Cincinnati firstbaseman, Votto, after hitting a home run, was pointing to himself saying “me, me, me” and turning his back and pointing down to his name. What a true narcissi!!

Winning more gold would have enabled her to get more endorsement contracts.

She’s not playing a racial game.

She might have depression.

Self pity, entitlement, and dependency are some of the elements of the dysfunctional black culture that keeps so many blacks from reaching and sustaining excellence in their lives.

Wow Radical Left Wing Commie Leftico
spins a over the hill gymnast who wanted a free trip for her sponsors to Japan full of
Perks and goodies bags then she quits .
She took the US Olympic committee for a free ride .
They knew she was too old and was performing poorly but because she was black they did not have the nerve to cut her .

Black power of no?
More like black weakness and cowardice of no.
There is a reason the Olympics are experiencing a massive collapse in TV ratings.

A lot of her pressure was self-imposed, and a lot of it was a function of her prior success and the media build-up to her second appearance in the Olympics. I don't remember a similar media frenzy over her before she won anything in 2016 ... but then again, I hardly pay any attention to the Olympics anyway. I don't even remember where the 2016 Olympics were held.

The whole racial angle of this article is baffling. What the hell difference does it make what color her skin is?

If anything, the only racial element that is worth noting is that the story of the 2021 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team may very well capture the essence of what is happening across American society in general -- with a young girl from an Asian immigrant family succeeding after the black girl quit.

at some point, she doesn’t owe anyone anything, but when you try out, make the team and head to Tokyo to compete, then pull out just before the competition, you have not only quit on yourself but you quit on your teammates many of whom may not ever make back to the Olympics....

You can make a very long list of athletes, male, female, black and white who sucked it up and competed, especially in team sports.....

If you are involved in a sport that isn’t a team sport like golf or tennis, then if you want to pull out or quit, go for it...

But if you are in a team sport, gymnastics is a little different in that they have a team competition followed by individual competitions....she quit in the team competition...

She’s the latest darling of the Left, who will do whatever is necessary to protect her image and never acknowledge she quit....plain and simple...

The Olympics is no longer about “Teams”, but about individuals who are there for their own benefit. Perhaps if the US is paying the way for these athletes, they should require them to give a “loyalty oath” to the Unites States and its Constitution, and if the athletes are not inclined to take the oath, bar them from the team. We would lose most of the medals, but the whole purpose of team representation would be preserved. Of course, that is why the Olympics barred professional athletes until recently, but now they are all professional athletes. Let the world worship its own idols.

the Olympics, the most venerated of sporting events

HARDLY!

It's most a series of contests of the type almost no one paid any attention to any other time. For me these contests we interesting when they involved only amateurs. Now I couldn't care less.

If it was a deliberate Black Power move it “blackfired”, because the Hmong girl won the gold and reminded America why Asians are considered a model minority. :)

The “black power” I'd like to see in this country is the ability to know the difference between “asked” and “axed” and the ability to divide 27 by 3...in their heads.
