So again, we must ask why the administration is so completely manic about mandating masks, lockdowns, and even vaccines.
We’re finally getting some clarity about what’s going on with COVID and it’s information that makes even more perplexing the Biden administration’s fanaticism about reintroducing all the COVID restrictions that not only didn’t work last year but were lifted completely for the Black Lives Matter protests and riots. The short version is that the vaccine doesn’t seem to protect against the Delta variant, we’re all still contagious, but (thankfully) we’re not dying like flies. That news, while not uplifting, doesn’t seem to justify the Democrats’ hysteria.
First, about the vaccine’s limited (but not nonexistent) protections:
The CDC reemphasizes that risk of infection or hospitalization are much lower in the vaccinated that among the unvaccinated. However, it also admits that breakthrough cases, especially among the delta variant, are more common than people might want to believe and may require rethinking the open-for-business atmosphere the country embraced in late spring.
Vaccinations still decrease the risk of death or severe disease by a factor of 10 and risk of infection by a factor of three. In vaccinated persons who did contract the virus, infected persons had a 40% lower viral load than unvaccinated persons, a shorter duration of viral load, a lower risk and shorter duration of symptoms.
Sadly, the vaccine is least effective among the most vulnerable: the aged and immunocompromised. This is especially bad because the Delta variant is more contagious than the original version – although no more infectious on average than chickenpox. (Of course, our kids are vaccinated against chickenpox.) This puts the vaccine in a weird category where it’s neither a vaccine nor a flu shot.

The left sure love the lockdowns.
Lockdowns = control.
For a narrative of why this is not a vaccine, the gain of function crowd’s stated objective, and medical facts about masks and social distancing, described as informative and “likely the most unvarnished truth that gets posted to these threads,” see reply 9 on this FR post.
You need a panic to justify the brutal oppression they are planning.
The sample was small - 469 infected at large public gatherings in one county in July - but still alarming.
74% of the infected had both shots or the J&J vaccine.
274 vaccinated had symptoms.
Five patients hospitalized - four were vaccinated. No deaths.
90% Delta variant.
Vaccinated have as much virus as un-vaccinated.
“..The data about Delta Variant infections do not support panicking...”
True, but the audits and upcoming mid-terms sure do!!!
The mid-term variant will likely be full-blown ebola.
Data don’t, but pols and news media do.

Normally, once over 50 people die, you’d stop the vaccine. For example, Back in 1976, 9 states halted the swine flu vaccine after just 3 deaths! Before it was halted nationwide, up to 32 people were estimated to have died and over 450 people were diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
But today, the rules have been scrapped. Now there is no limit to how many people can be killed. Nobody in government will call for a halt. We are at 438 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, over 9,000 deaths reported, and 438,440 adverse event reports. This is a clinical trial without a stopping condition.

“Guillain-Barré syndrome can be a devastating disorder because of its sudden and rapid, unexpected onset of weakness—and usually actual paralysis. Fortunately, 70% of people with GBS eventually experience full recovery. With careful intensive care and successful treatment of infection, autonomic dysfunction and other medical complications, even those individuals with respiratory failure usually survive.
“Typically, the point of greatest weakness occurs days to at most 4 weeks after the first symptoms occur. Symptoms then stabilize at this level for a period of days, weeks, or, sometimes months. Recovery, however, can be slow or incomplete. The recovery period may be as little as a few weeks up to a few years. Some individuals still report ongoing improvement after 2 years. About 30 percent of those with Guillain-Barré have residual weakness after 3 years. About 3 percent may suffer a relapse of muscle weakness and tingling sensations many years after the initial attack. About 15 percent of individuals experience long-term weakness; some may require ongoing use of a walker, wheelchair, or ankle support. Muscle strength may not return uniformly.”
“In October, three people died of heart attacks after they had received the vaccine at the same Pittsburgh clinic, which sparked an investigation and the recall of that batch of vaccine. The investigation showed that the deaths were not related to the immunization.”

No deaths=no need for draconian lock-down mandates.
Quite a few “infected” but asymptomatic.
This outbreak was among the gay population in Provincetown, so whatever the “normal” transmissibility of the Delta variant might be, it was probably multiplied times ten in this particular group, simply because they “mingle” at a more intimate level than a random group of people at a public event.
Gays don’t “mingle” in public anymore than straight people.

On another but related subject, does anyone but me wonder about the credentials of these blog authors and the veracity of their statements? The same goes for any other journalist now and maybe for all time but it seems in the past they may have been more responsible.
This author, Andrea Widburg, has written what appears to be hundreds of articles for American Thinker just since January of 2020 (I did not count them but did open the list that goes on for several screens on my large monitor). The point is, these articles are not peer reviewed, can’t have more than a Day or much less research in them and I wonder how accurate they are? How accurate is anything about this covid mess? How accurate is anything written about complex subjects by any journalist not an expert in the field and written on short order and in a hurry? I accept that compared to me these people are just nothing short of brilliant but there are only so many hours in a day.
When all you have is a hammer everything has to be a nail. When you have to fill the blogosphere for clicks, well, just like us here, you write and seek attention. There may be a passion for the truth but self-discipline and accountability only go so far when you are clamoring to be heard and seen.
The 24/7, anybody gets a voice, multi-media outlet world has destroyed peace and quiet and calm but only if you let it into your life. Most of what we access is mostly useless or unimportant to us.
Also keep in mind that those vaxxed will be tempted to not even report feeling ill: “Can’t be covid, CNN told me that I’m now immune, must be just flu.” So, the numbers of vaxxed that got re-infected are probably grossly under-reported. Also know that the CDC has quit keeping tabs on re-infected vaxxers. Care to guess why?
It is not a vaccine. Since it is not designed to kill the virus, like every other vaccine ever used, it permits re-infection and transmission. The only reason anyone can call it a vaccine is because the CDC refined the term “vaccine” to specifically include mRNA a few years ago.
Kinda like “gay” was redefined. :)
Well, I’ve been to straight clubs and I’ve been to gay clubs, and - IMHO - gays “mingle” at a whole different level than straight people.
Per Andrew Sullivan, who lives in Provincetown:
Sullivan said many had just come from Pride parties in New York City and packed into bars and dance clubs.
One of the bars is like a ‘dang dungeon where sweat drips from the ceiling and mold reaches up the walls,’ Sullivan said. ‘It might have been designed for viral transmission,’ he added.
