Hasn't that been the problem all along? People we were "training" one day would turn on us the next day. They only pretended to be loyal to whoever was paying them & you could never tell who was your ally or or enemy.
That's why, to me anyway, it is now surprise the people we trained were not loyal to us & would never be able to hold the country. The Taliban retaking the country was inevitable, either 10 years ago, or 20 years from now. Yes, it could have been a whole lot more orderly, but it was going to happen whenever we left.

Is it me, or did Twitter change something today. I can still see tweets, but every time I refresh, it asks me to log in (I don’t have an account & never had to log in before). I can still read the tweets, but I cannot click on any tweet & read any replies. Same thing happening on my phone.
In June 1954, at the age of 15, Hulme and her best friend Pauline Parker murdered Parker’s mother, Honorah Rieper.[3] Hulme’s parents were in the process of separating and she was supposed to go to South Africa to stay with a relative. The two teenage friends, who had created a complicated fantasy life together populated with famous actors such as James Mason and Orson Welles, did not want to be separated.
On 22 June 1954, the girls and Honorah Rieper went for a walk in Victoria Park in their hometown of Christchurch. On an isolated path Hulme dropped an ornamental stone so that Rieper would lean over to retrieve it. Parker had planned to hit her mother with half a brick wrapped in a stocking. The girls presumed that one blow would kill her but it took more than 20.[4]
Parker and Hulme stood trial in Christchurch in 1954 and were found guilty on 29 August that year. As they were too young to be considered for the death penalty under New Zealand law at the time, they were convicted and sentenced to be “detained at Her Majesty’s pleasure”. In practice they were detained at the discretion of the Minister of Justice. They were released separately five years later.
Parker and Hulme are not believed to have had any contact since the trial.[5]
The events formed the basis for the 1994 film Heavenly Creatures, in which Melanie Lynskey portrayed a teenage Pauline Parker and Kate Winslet the teenaged Juliet Hulme. At the time of the film’s release, it was not generally known that mystery author “Anne Perry” was Juliet Hulme, whose identity was made public some months after the film’s release. Although some presumed Hulme and Parker’s relationship to be sexual, Perry stated in 2006 that, while the relationship was obsessive, the two “were never lesbians”.[5]

Moderate Dems Tell Pelosi To Pound Sand; Threaten To Hold $3.5T Budget Plan Hostage
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is scrambling to strike a compromise with nine moderate Democrats threatening to tank the $3.5 trillion budget blueprint, which they say they won’t support unless there’s an immediate vote on the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package.
The nine moderates told Pelosi to pound sand.
“While we appreciate the forward procedural movement on the bipartisan infrastructure agreement, our view remains consistent: We should vote first on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework without delay and then move to immediate consideration of the budget resolution,” they said in a Sunday night statement. “We simply cannot afford any delays.”
House Democrats scheduled a caucus call for Tuesday at noon as they seek to resolve differences over the path forward and the sequencing of Biden’s two-track approach.
Pelosi’s proposal earlier Sunday reflects conflicting pressures on the speaker within her caucus. Progressives are demanding that she hold up a vote on the infrastructure package until the Senate completes a final version of the bigger budget package to ensure it addresses their priorities on social programs and climate change. -Bloomberg
“Our goal is to pass the budget resolution the week of August 23rd so that we may pass Democrats’ Build Back Better agenda via reconciliation as soon as possible,” said Pelosi. “To that end, I have requested that the Rules Committee explore the possibility of a rule that advances both the budget resolution and the bipartisan infrastructure package.”
“This will put us on a path to advance the infrastructure bill and the reconciliation bill.”
