As Sunisa Lee celebrates her gold medal win in the women's gymnastics all-around final today, the Team USA star has become an instant household name — but who is the 18-year-old gymnast who took the top spot in her first-ever Olympics Games?
Sunisa, who hails from Minnesota, is the daughter of Laotian refugees who fled the country in the wake of the Vietnam War — and she's also the first Hmong-American to represent the United States at the Olympics.
Her road to the Games wasn't an easy one, with the star persevering through personal tragedy after her father was paralyzed in a freak accident in 2019 that left him in a wheelchair.

CONGRATULATIONS Sunisa Lee!
A great American.
Great American story. What racism?
Okay may be right? My kids are around 30 and the daughter is hot so …
Thanks
Exactly- the public schools here allow the kids to go as group or even go as a single. My daughters friend went to the prom solo and she’s not a lezbo.
Of course the Catholic HS my daughter just graduate from says it has to be boy-girl or no-go...
what’s even better was her father built her first balance beam and put it in the front yard. Looked like a couple of 2 x 4’s nailed together.
I’m pinging the Auburn University list because Suni Lee has signed with OUR gymnastics team. WAR EAGLE! Another Olympian for us.
Very nice!
Parents from Laos.
Go USA.
Add me to the ping list, if you would. My late father and two cousins were/are grads, and I follow AU football, along with my alma mater, USNA. War Eagle!! Go Navy!!
And just like that Simone could only find work at Arby’s.
You are added and Welcome! War Eagle! Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
And this is why I was wrong when I said I was not going to watch any Olympics because of the wokesters BLM female soccer team and NBLMA basketball. I was always going to watch rugby 7s but catch more of it since my frau enjoys watching it. So many US Olympians doing well and showing pride of country. I will not let one pink haired cyka ruin watching real Americans compete.
Still won’t watch NFL or NBA which have been dead to me for years.
Once again an Asian American succeeds where a Black cannot.
Sort of a microcosm of the USA.
Work ethic apparently
“...Biles’ dropout of her commitment to compete for the United States was just a cute way of taking a knee. .....”
I came to the same conclusion, tank USA performance and later on admit to such. Subtle BLM tactic
Everything is backwards. Heroes are called scum and scum are now called heroes. The more corrupt a person, the more he or she is lauded by the press and govt. If you see someone being attacked in the press, you can almost bank on them being a good and decent person. 60 minutes has done this since day one and its success spread to the entire press. There are no good people any more at CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc etc. All are wreckers who go after decent people and organizations and laud the most evil and corrupt ones.
Re: 13 - What a piggish comment.
Grow up.
Simone has been successful. She got psyched out for some reason. She may be able to re-focus and compete again.
Anyone from southeast Asia will tell you how good race relations are in the USA. In S.E.A. every ethnic group HATES the other. Well, in all of Asia really. and in Africa. Well, in most places except the USA. Other places like Canada pretend they are better on race, yet how often do you see a black politician in Canada or Germany? Japan may be the absolute worst but China rivals them. It’s hard to pick the worst since tribalism and bigotry are the human norms across the world. Ever listen to an Irishman from County Clare talk about those scum from County Cork? Lol.
