SEIU is trying to capture fast food workers.
They have already captured Healthcare
I’m sure these food service workers have lots of other skills that will get them a great paying job somewhere else.
That walkout will look great on their resumes.
Part time workers are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
Businesses hire their low-tier workers as part timers, to avoid having to give them benefits like health insurance.
This is a very real problem.
Two times in the last month I have waited for almost ONE HOUR in a restaurant for a meal. The answer when we asked why was “Only one cook.”
First, there are fewer kids. In Spain, Russia, & Japan this is already a shocking reality. China is now TWO YEARS older than the USA on average and is gaining a shocking six months every year on us (i.e., they are avg 40, we are 38, but in six more months they will be an average of 40.5 and we’ll still be 38).
Second, those kids and/or service workers who ARE current employees have been brainwashed into thinking they should be getting Tom Brady-type pay.
Third, the China Virus convinced many they can “work from home.” No. This was meant as a temp fix, not a livestyle.
Taking back their power???
In other words - they are taking MY MONEY. Why work when the gubmint will pay you to stay home and do squat.
Some power.
In the past two weeks I traveled across several states for work. I stayed in a couple hotels and an Airbnb. Eating in restaurants mostly. I found the locally owned places very accommodating, with attentive wait staff and fast service. The combo gas station/convenience store places were next efficient. Sheetz was one, they advertise a higher pay level than others and it would seem to pay off. Every Sheetz I got fast service, made to order food well prepared and smiling faces. Then I tried an Applebee’s...over priced, poor service (I sat at my table for 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged me), food was poorly prepared and sadly presented. Finally was a bob Evans in Ohio. They obviously lack employees, but the staff could have done a better job of handling the shortage. From the snotty hostess to dried out food, had to get my own silver ware, to a flailing wait staff it was by far the worst.
The point of all this seems to be that the companies that take care of the employee end up taking care of the customer and as a result get repeat business.
The covid excuse is getting old. As a paying customer I don’t care about covid or a business shortage of workers. If you can’t give good service then shut your doors and just stop.
As a result of my trip Applebee’s is way down on my list with Bob Evans below that. This attitude will carry on for years, with these places being my last choice. I can say this...I ate at waffle house twice (different stores) and, despite the rep I had excellent service and well prepared food in a clean, friendly environment.
Does economics not figure in to this anymore? Enjoy those $10 Big Macs coming soon.
Go out to eat very seldom anymore. I especially avoid fast-food joints like SpitDonalds and Booger Fling. And, of course, that includes Chick-fil-A unless I need my shoes shined.
We cook healthy, filling and GREAT meals at home.
There might be psychological reasons for much of what is happening.
Some of it is irrational and some is something else?...a break down in the consistency? or dependability?
What started out as a two week affair wound up being nearly 2 years.
And that is another element..uncertainty. Will they” lock down America again?
On a recent trip to Florida we noticed an absence of black female servers, where in past years these women would have been in the majority. In Forsyth Ga. the Shoney’s was closed due to the labor shortage, while the restaurants in the downtown area were thriving. All of the servers and cooks were white. The Cracker Barrel restaurants had sufficient white female servers but lacked enough cooks, leading to a longer wait for food. Our local Bob Evans has a similar problem, a lack of cooks, although that has been a problem for well over a year.
The government is artificially reducing the labor supply and employers are refusing to pay more so A POX ON BOTH HOUSES.
“Taking back their power, h”ll. They’re taking the back of their Stimulus checks and signing on the dotted line. As they’ve been doing for a long while, and a long time to come, I think.
