An elderly German man is facing a suspended prison sentence for storing a WWII tank, anti-aircraft gun and torpedo in his basement.
The case is moving through a German court, after Germany's army was called in to remove the tank and other weaponry from the 84-year-old's home in 2015.
According to man's lawyer, a US museum is keen to buy the 1943 Panther tank, which weighs 50,000 kilograms and measures 6.7 metres long.
Authorities were alerted to the remarkable collection after the home in the wealthy town of Heikendorf, a suburb of Kiel, was searched during an investigation into stolen Nazi art.
Other military and war collectors have shown interest in purchasing a variety of other weaponry seized from the home, including assault rifles and pistols, local media reports.
The mayor of Heikendorf, Alexander Orth, told local media at the time he was not surprised by the discovery of military hardware.

My opponent thought he had blocked a mountain pass with excessive amounts of heavy artillery.
I ran right through his artillary to capture the objective city. He killed a number of my troops but couldn’t get the rest of his armies there in time to prevent the capture of the objective.

Good thing this was in Germany and not in West Virginia or western PA. Nancy Pelosi would refortify the Capitol and the dems would spend the next three years investigating the impending blitzkrieg against DC.

it’s not a Panzer, a Panther, nor a Tiger. In fact it’s not even German, it’s a British-designed Centurion tank. The key identifying characteristics are six road wheels with a noticeable gap between the 2nd and 3rd road wheels, live track, and large sponson boxes mounted on the flanks of the turret (so the Tommys could carry their tea service into battle).
Nor is it WWII vintage because the Centurion didn’t begin being produced until 1946. The bore evacuator on the main gun tube indicates it’s even newer than that, or at the very least it’s had significant armament updates since manufacture, probably 1960 or later. In any case it definitely hasn’t been sitting in somebody’s basement since the battle of the Bulge.
Oops. I stand corrected. It appears the Centurion tank in the video AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE WITH THE NEWS STORY has nothing to do with the German tank mention in the story.
You are correct, the lead photo in this article is not a MK V. However, the tank in the story is a MK V. It was painted a desert sand color, no markings and no treads. I saw a photo of the tank after the German army tank recovery team had extricated it from the basement a few years ago.

My brother was a big fan of Star Fleet Battles. I enjoyed it when we played, but it was more his thing than mine. Later in life he got into Warhammer and other miniature games, and I tended to stay with the classic historical wargames.
I liked Axis & Allies. I was very surprised one time when I was using a strategy reliant on those Industrial Factory pieces, and it turned out that the RULES had been CHANGED by the game publisher without any sort of indication.
In earlier and better days when the tanks still ran, the owner would sortie his Panther tank from its basement lair and take it on spins around the neighborhood.
