ALPENA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A portion of M-32 will be closed for five hours on August 5 as the Air Force practices landing an aircraft on roadways designed for cars and trucks.
According to the Air Force, the plan is to land four A-10 aircraft and two C-146 aircraft on a closed-off portion of the road near the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center.

That’s not much in passengers or cargo...hmmm
They could take lessons from the teenager who landed his banner plane on the causeway bridge between ocean city and sommers point in NJ last week.
And if was to bring in rapid deployment of troops, they’d just drop them in via parachute.
Haven’t been here long? Its Northern Strike and we do it every year.
Trust freepers to make it into a conspiracy.

Wait a minute, you imply everyone here is a conspiracy theorist, then you post a link which does not explain the purpose of this training in regards to landing aircraft on public roads.
And since you’re so well informed, what’s the purpose?
I retired as a C-130 loadmaster and I’ve never heard of the C-146.
The Wolfhound…I never heard of it either.
I came home from Vietnam on a GV-1🇺🇸
President Trump received 63% of the 2020 vote in Alpena County.
This is an absolutely crazy stupid idea:
UNLESS the government is afraid we are about to be attacked in a manner so destructive that airports will be put completely out of use.
When you consider how many airports in the US can easily handle the aircraft that will take part in the test, it would take total warfare with disastrous results for all of these airports to become unusable.
For instance google the Alpena airport. They can handle anything flying.
Either the military has gone nuts (a distinct possiblity) or they have information that scares them.
Practice on our interstates is not satisfactory preparation for landing on a road in China or wherever..
I’m down south by Selfridge AFB and we are treated to regular A-10 fly overs.
About a week ago two past low overhead banking around 45%.
They are awesome things to see and hear when they are on your side.
They are.
With towers, radio, and radar down, and with the possibility of cluttered or cratered runways, it pays to have a Plan B...
They should practise landing on IH-20 in Louisiana.
They like to pour concrete on a sand base in 60' sections.
There will be a slight "bump" every 60ft...1-2 inches.
bring some F18s and compare.
Something tells me a landing strip that is not moving 20 or 30 feet up and down would be pretty plumb for naval aviators.
Yep!
Nothing suspicious here...
Move along...
Horrible to ponder but probably on its way.
Idea to stop the real invasion landings later on: Send out a dozen or more little old ladies in Grand Marquis's going 20-25 mph tops. Pilots will throw up their hands and not try landing. All cars will have turn signals continuously on to confuse sensors in the aircraft.
I’ve been on several cargo planes at air shows and can now picture them with Deplorable Suppressor Troops, trained to hunt us down.
One big problem: Gretchen Whitmer defeated her predecessor as everyone demanded “Fix the #@%#’# Roads” after decades of big taxes wasted and the road with impassable seams, crevices and big potholes. Whitmer mishandled it (of course) and looks bad.
And the roads are still bad-——so hard to land aircraft. May blow one or two tires, twist a wheel, knock a wing onto the road and burn up faster than a CHiPS rerun auto fire (their aircraft landings were single
engine ones).
It all sounds great until somebody lets their milk cows out on the highway.
