Vance and Masters are campaigning against the status quo. They believe that the greatest threats faced by America are internal, not external. They argue that we don’t need to liberate foreign nations — we need to liberate ourselves from a corrupt, oppressive elite whose members live in the same cities, go to the same colleges, hold the same opinions — and try to silence anyone who disagrees.

I really like the man, but Levin said that he was not a Trump voter in 2016 OR 2020.
He was a late convert to Trump.
If you can forget his past statements he is impressive and/or interesting from what I’ve seen of him.
He’s different and not your typical.. Need more of those in the Senate.
As for Mark Levin dare I say he was also a late convert to Trump...
He looks like an old friend of mie.
So was I. lol I voted for him in 2016, of course, but he only gained my trust AFTER he became President.
How much of a conservative does Vance have to be to be more of a conservative than Rob Portman?
I’ve been let down many times by politicians who know what we want to hear to get elected. Then afterwards they do their own thing....or do nothing.
I voted for Mitch McConell over the years when I lived in Ky and then Portman when I moved to Ohio. Both great disappointments, yet they said all the right words. I campaigned for Mitt Romney. Politicians are power hungry. Do they run for power or to protect our Republic? Been burnt too many times.
So, I am very skeptical.
How much of a conservative does Vance have to be to be more of a conservative than Rob Portman?
~~~
That’s my question. Portman had been saying all the right things since he came out, and he has a history. Why did we need JD Vance to come out for this race? I don’t trust it. Now watch, some RINO is going sneak in because we’re splitting up the vote.
Or Vance himself is the RINO. Other than what he has been saying (and he seems to have a few high profile backers in the conservative media), how do we know how he will vote/legislate?
If true, that should be a deal-breaker. He could have held his nose to vote for Trump as we conservatives have been doing all these years when we voted for RINOs. Any "conservative" who voted for Hillary or Biden over Trump (or left it blank) is no conservative.
He did not vote for Trump, for which he has apologized. He had tweeted he might vote for an independent- NOT Hillary or Biden. https://dailycaller.com/2021/07/06/jd-vance-donald-trump-elections-2022-ohio/
I’ve read his book, Hillbilly Elegy and heard his interview on Tucker Carlson Today. I’m thinking I like him. He’s conservative, seems to have a lot of horse sense, and is a “thinking man.” Although he was not initially a supporter or Trump, he became a strong convert long before considering this Senate run. He’s certainly way better than Portman.
Portman is NOT running for re-election in 2022. https://dailycaller.com/2021/01/25/rob-portman-not-run-reelection-2022-ohio-senate/
Reminds me somewhat of Jeff Flake’s first run. Jeff ran as a tea party “independent thinker” guy.
Opposing Trump for the GOP nomination and not liking or trusting him at the time is totally understandable, a lot of us FReepers were in the same boat (myself included) so I can't bash him for that without sounding hypocritical.
But actually voting FOR McMuffin? I don't know any legitimate conservative who considered that for more than two seconds. I took one look at McMuffin's platform and said HELL NO at the time.
If you can find anyone who switched from Cruz to McMuffin, let me know.
Levin was a late convert to Trump...I quit listening to his radio program because he spent most of his 3-hour show bashing Trump.
To his credit, he switched, I believe after Trump was elected, and has been an unwavering supporter.
Regardless of "Hillbilly Elegy", this guy comes off as an elitist. We already have plenty of his type in the Senate - preening, smug, self-important Ivy Leaguers. Hard pass.
If you read JD Vance’s book he kinds of appropriates the Left’s language to advance the notion that working class whites are oppressed and under represented at elite institutions.
He has more brains than the average establishment Republican clone.
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.
Is JD Vance the real deal?
Is he real or rigged?
Will he/can he fight?
Most young men do not know how much they do not know.
He is young.
His “Hillybilly” upbringing was priveledged compared to many but he seems to think it makes him special and different. Snowflakism?
Josh Mandel is abrasive and contentious, but not a pretentious navel gazer...you know what you get.
Ohio needs men that will lead us. Men that we will follow into foul weather and close combat.
Who will fight regardless?
Who will make peace at any price?
Who will it be?
You have a good reason to be a skeptic. Ivy league law grad and worked in public relations(military)-good training for politics. The left uses their military backgrounds the same way a gay guy uses his wife as a beard.
Still, if he catches traction I’d enthusiastically support him AFTER he wins the nomination and give him 6 years. Did that for Thune and he was good for 6. That means vigilance.
Cynical manipulation that he doesn't believe, but then, he's a politician.
