People with diabetes account for a staggering 40 percent of those who have died from COVID-19 in the US, according to the American Diabetes Association
...
the risk of hospitalization and death related to COVID being six to 12 times higher for people with diabetes
...
Alarmingly, the ADA has also said that cases of type 2 diabetes have almost doubled in children since the pandemic.

Obesity-associated type 2 diabetes—or both 1 and 2?
So tell me-which is the cause of death?
Perhaps the diabetes medication facilitates the SARS attack?
Probably severe respiratory distress.
Metformin is a common type-2 diabetes drug.
Metformin: Anti-Aging Diabetes Drug Can Extend Life To 120 Years, Experts Say
CDC study finds about 78% of people hospitalized for Covid were overweight or obese.. CDC found the risk for hospitalizations, ICU admissions and deaths was lowest among individuals with BMIs under 25..
Overweight is defined as having a body mass index of 25 or more, while obesity is defined as having a BMI of 30 or more.
That’s a possibility. Supposedly, according to doctors, statins and heart medicine decreases Covid deaths by 40%. So it could be the medicine. Covid may have been designed to thin the herd and goes after weakness.
I'm guessing sugar!
Obesity-associated type 2 diabetes—or both 1 and 2

Among those who are diagnosed with diabetes, 91.2 percent have type 2 diabetes and 5.6 percent have 1 diabetes.
You cannot prevent Type 1 - you CAN prevent/reverse Type 2 in most cases.
Acne medicine (formerly known as Acutane) may also starve SARS’ ability to attack the cells. I thought diabetes medication may have the opposite effect.
I’ve tried to find the related write-up, but no luck. I have a sketchy recollection of the impact on ACE2 receptors.
And if it is only type 2 with special vulnerability that tells us something.
Meanwhile this guy always was a bozo:

I blame it on Coca Cola. All of their products, including Minute Maid Orange Juice, cause obesity and diabetes. Woka Cola is killing people of color.
Prevent, reverse, manage. A keto diet is a good start
Bring in a virus that kills people with type 2 diabetes and then lock people down so they sit around and eat and since most people in the US eat poorly, especially kids, type 2 diabetes doubles in kids. Borderline self perpetuating.
Type 2 have ‘metabolic syndrome’. Obesity & high blood pressure, for example, are co-morbidities of COVID & are symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome means lots of inflammation, so if you’re already inflamed, the COVID cytokine storm stacks on top of that. Your Vit D is generally low with metabolic syndrome - if it is in the 60-80 ng/ml range rather than down around 20-25, I’ve seen it said that the cytokine storm doesn’t/cannot develop. Also, BMI is not that useful (doesn’t account for race, as an example). A better determinant is that your waist measurement should be half or less than your height - if more, that’s an indication you may have metabolic syndrome.
Been there, done that .... and trying to help others.
I tried that (late wife’s supply) and all it did was extend my time in the bathroom.
My height keeps shrinking, though...that’s not fair.
