Forget toilet paper: This summer’s suitcase shortage could leave travelers in a lurch

Just as store shelves are consistently stocked with toilet paper again, U.S. consumers could be facing another shortage this summer: suitcases.

With pent-up travel demand manifesting in the form of surging bookings, vacationers in the market for new luggage could find themselves up against product scarcity and high prices as they prepare to pack for their next round of adventures.

But it’s not just an increase in demand that has left shelves at many major retailers nearly bare. A combination of factors has led to a breakdown in the supply chain that keeps stores stocked with suitcases.

I guess we are doomed. No suitcases? First world non-problem.

You can re-use a suitcase.

I wouldn’t recommend re-using toilet paper.

” pent-up travel demand”

Most vacation will be done by RV most likely. No need for a suitcase if you have a RV.

No, they all got used to carry extra ballots.

At almost 60, I still prefer this mode of travel as well.

Give me enough bungee cords and I can carry a baby grand on a motorcycle.

I stopped traveling for business when I retired. Looks like it’s time to clean up all of my old suitcases, carry-on bags, garment bags, etc. and sell them on EBay.

Wife and I decided to buy new suitcases. They were delivered just as the lockdowns started. We each have a new set that’s been sitting in the closet for over a year. Sometimes you luck out.

Ah-ha! Just in time for my latest get rich scheme. A rental company called “Luggage Are US.”

Most people waste storage space for a bunch of luggage that’s used maybe a couple of times a year. Not anymore. Just give us a call and tell us what kind of luggage you need and when and we’ve got you covered. We’ll even cost the cost of returning the luggage to us.

Asia seems to be the best at it. Pianos, tires, grandma, two cows, and a chicken on a minibike.

Our beat up old suitcase exploded by the time we arrived in Tucson to visit family in February 2020. We stayed 11 days. By the middle of the 11 days a new one was delivered from Amazon. Check them. They probably have whatever you need.

You’ll be in the wrong business.

United Airlines switched to charging customers $50 for EACH checked bag over a decade ago.

Might as well just ship a package to your destination or even buy a new wardrobe there.
