Trouble is brewing on the European gas market. In the wake of a long, cold winter, natural gas reservoirs are unusually low and should, in principle, be refilled very quickly. Russia’s state-owned corporation Gazprom could increase supplies.
The market leader, however, has not done that, despite prices recently reaching a 13-year high. In turn, there is growing concern across Europe that there may be insufficient gas supplies for the upcoming winter.
Gazprom has not booked any additional gas transit through Ukraine in July, although deliveries of Russian natural gas to the EU will drop by more than 2 billion cubic meters this month.
Due to scheduled maintenance, the two remaining transportation routes to Germany will be temporarily discontinued. The Yamal pipeline across Belarus and Poland was shut down this week, and the much larger Nord Stream pipeline through the Baltic Sea will be closed between July 13 and July 23.
“It appears Gazprom not only optimizes price and quantity, but that it would rather exert pressure in order to ensure completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline,” Joachim Endress, head of the Berlin-based consulting firm Ganexo, observes in his second-quarter 2021 Gas Market Report.
Gazprom insists that it fulfills all its obligations. …

Hunter is on Burisma’s payroll, not Gazprom.
No, but lessening the power of Ukraine is good. It’s pretty much said that Russia Is a nation with a gas station for an economy. I might be mistaken, but I think the Netherlands still has a bigger economy than Russia. Putin is not “strangling” the EU. We all miss the cold war, but those days are gone. The Russian army is literally 10% of the size it was during the Fulda gap days.
Of course, the state department, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon don’t want you to know that.
Putin would like more Euros for the Russian budget.

The Europeans had 24 years to wean themselves off of fossil fuels.
Maybe build some nuclear power plants? Wait, didn’t Germany shutdown or plans to shutdow. all of their nuclear power plants down?

I do hope we can save the art.
True.
Europeans would rather take risks than do the hard work of taking responsibility themselves.
EU should know that LNG from the US is a more reliable energy source than that from Russia. Besides their money, in payment for US LNG, gets back into NATO coffers. Oh, the fools
It’s about both Germany and Russia controlling the supply. Nothing else, except for maybe TDS and general anti-Americanism.
Why?
Putin is not “strangling” the EU.
It's not winter.
Western Europe will be a third world s hole soon enough and won’t need gas.
No; that’s a crisis created by the elites for the purpose of imposing a police state eventually. You can see that in progress through stuff like “COVID passports” and the like.
The article is an emotional piece of propaganda and isn’t even good to manipulate facts to support the message.
First, the repositories filled to 8 to 20% is not a shortage.
Second, it implies that Gazprom did something wrong, which is not the case, because the contract obligations are fulfilled and the agreed amount of gas was in fact delivered.
The fact that more gas has been consumed than expected doesn’t mean that more gas should be automatically delivered unless there is a real shortage.
Also UK called to halt deliveries through the Yamal pipeline, coming through Belarus and Poland, as part of sanctions on Belarus for ‘Ryanair highjacking’.
Ukraine previously nationalized diesel fuel in a similar pipeline running to Hungary under the same pretext, so you can’t blame Gazprom for refusing to pump the extra amounts above contract obligations, which might is seized under phony pretext as well.
Last but not least is a Nordstream II pipeline, expected to be operational by late August.
Why should Gazprom contract the Ukrainian transit capacity to replenish the European storage, wasting a billion dollars, when it would simply use its own capacity through Nordstream II in only two months?
Another positive aspect of the situation is that it exposes the fifth column in Europe opposing NSII as traitors, who are trying to provoke winter shortages by their reckless actions.
Regardless American LNG, nobody indeed rejected it.
There is infrastructure to take it in Europe at this point but the American companies lack the capacity and unwilling to supply them an current prices, because they prefer to ship to the premium Asian markets, where the price is twice of that of Europe.
The article may indeed be propaganda, but so is a lot of your post.
Would you mind to point what exactly is incorrect in my post?
Your claims about US gas, and calling European opponents to Nord Stream II “traitors” (to whom?!?)
Okay, you have two points, none is legit.
What exactly stops the US exports to Europe except for the price? There are 32 LNG terminals in Europe! Of them 14 built over last decade. Would you detail what makes the problem for the US companies to use them? Russian companies are using them without problems, on top of pipeline supply.
The traitors to Europe are ‘greens’ advocating ‘environmentally-friendly’ overseas gas at exorbitant price, rejecting the cheap abundant local alternatives, and NATO mafia insisting to maintain unreliable costly transit through Ukraine, where Biden, Kerry and Pelosi get their cut. That is basically the extortion racket on both German and Russian economies.
Now, that’s funny.
Who said Europe is a state?
Europe is Germany, Austria, France and other countries, and NSII is in their interest.
You are arguing the point which is not mine.
Once again, tell me what stops the US companies from exporting to Europe, except price? Why are the American tankers coming to Asia instead?
As for the German control other the German supply I once again fail to see the problem. Who else needs to control it? Do you think Germany needs to control the American oil supply either?
Why Gazprom needs to contract Ukraine once again?
Your position is simply illogical.
You stated two points, both refuted, and you don’t even try to defend it, coming with this instead.
Everybody is tired with Ukraine and Poland, trying to leach off of everyone else.
Did you mention that Denmark has banned the construction of the Polish pipeline lately, or Hungary and Serbia tapped to the Gazprom’s South Stream to bypass Ukraine and Poland?
When everybody avoids your goods like a plague, there might be a problem with what you are trying to sell.
