Consumer Affairs Minister Alberto Garzón has reignited the debate about Spain’s love of meat by asking Spaniards to consume less “carne” to protect their personal health as well as the future of the planet.
“I am worried. I am worried about the planet,” Garzón said in a video posted on Twitter on July 7th, pleading with Spaniards to cut down their meat consumption to improve their personal well-being and that of the planet’s.
“Without a planet we have no life, we have no salaries and we have no economy. And we are bringing this upon ourselves. One thing we can change, which has a direct impact on the planet, is our diet. We can change our diet and improve the state of the planet”.
Garzón explained that according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the meat and dairy industry accounts for 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. […]
Spain consumes seven million tonnes of meat each year, which comes from the slaughter of 70 million animals. […]
Despite Spaniards’ excessive consumption of meat, it doesn’t seem to be affecting their health too much, as the Spanish are predicted to have the longest life expectancy in the world by 2040 — mainly thanks to their Mediterranean diet. In 2019, Spain was already considered the healthiest country in the world, according to the Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index. …

They will pry my jamón from my cold dead hands.
Cheeseburger in Paradise
Tried to amend my carnivorous habits
Made it nearly seventy days
Losin’ weight without speed, eatin’ sunflower seeds
Drinkin’ lots of carrot juice and soakin’ up rays
But at night I’d have these wonderful dreams
Some kind of sensuous treat
Not zucchini, fettuccini, or bulgur wheat
But a big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat
Where do these idiots come from? Spain? …we have enough of them here….this stuff has to stop, it is serious stupid.
Entirely acceptable to them. Not that they care about animals you understand.
I’ve never been to Spain…
I loves me some Tapas and Paella. They better not mess with it.
But I kinda like the music.
“I am worried. I am worried about the planet,”
Get an ulcer wankstain.
Don’t doubt me, it is a spiritual battle…..loss of Christianity is the only explanation.
Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.
Romans 14:1-23 ESV
As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables.
Seriously, the best thing these people can do for the planet is to kill themselves. That might impress me with their level of commitment to the cause.
I hear the ladies are insane there…
Well, if the rain in Spain stayed mainly on the plain, there would be plenty of grass for the cattle to eat...hence, more MEAT.
If God didn’t want us to eat tasty animals, he would not have made them out of MEAT in the first place.
Pass the burgers.
Screw up your own life, but leave everybody else alone…
The religio-Environmental totalitarian should worry more about his BBQ, like most Spaniards.
Every time we eat a cheeseburger the Gospel is in the act; something has to die for us to live. This goes all the way back to God’s everlasting covenant with Noah’s (all of us) family, and even further to the fall where the sacrifice of an innocent animal was required as payment for sins pointing ultimately to Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross
Plants have to die for us to eat them, too. You don’t consume an apple and then have an apple tree spring out of you . . .
The animal used to symbolize Christ is the lamb, specifically. And there were also plant sacrifices in the First and Second Temples, particularly the grain offerings.
Plant based food is lab based food. Its a Coke, a can of frosting, Bisquick, Marshmallows, and so many more food items that are horrible to eat. The reality is animal based food including fat is packed with so many more vitamins that your body readily uses. Most Caucasians depended on animal based food for the bulk of their diet for most of the existence of the race. The dependence on a heavily processed carb meal has produced fatter, sicker, Americans with numerous long term life threatening diseases that had never occurred before in so many people. Cancer, Diabetes 2 and liver disease as well as heart attacks and Alzheimer disease can be traced to a high carb diet and processed vegetable oils.
