That is only a problem on the west coast. Here on the east coast the fireworks are typically held over the harbors of the major cities. That allows the smoke to harmlessly drift out over the sea. Who cares if the whales are coughing a little bit?

Interesting. My white bread family lit off no fireworks last night. Yet our black neighbors spent hours lighting them off. Maybe I should get word to them that firecrackers are racist.

In our little town they shoot the fireworks up into the air - several hundred feet above the ground and several hundred feet away from spectators.

Few people get smoke inhalation from the air burst unless they are having an out-of-body experience.

I guess I have seen some ground effect pyrotechnics but, again, it is several hundred feet from the spectators.
