That is only a problem on the west coast. Here on the east coast the fireworks are typically held over the harbors of the major cities. That allows the smoke to harmlessly drift out over the sea. Who cares if the whales are coughing a little bit?

Wouldn’t be great if it read as:

In my town it is the “people of color” who are detonating all the fireworks and shooting their pistols in the air.

Interesting. My white bread family lit off no fireworks last night. Yet our black neighbors spent hours lighting them off. Maybe I should get word to them that firecrackers are racist.

In our little town they shoot the fireworks up into the air - several hundred feet above the ground and several hundred feet away from spectators.

Few people get smoke inhalation from the air burst unless they are having an out-of-body experience.

I guess I have seen some ground effect pyrotechnics but, again, it is several hundred feet from the spectators.

What do you expect from a bunch of millennial runts.

Vulnerable populations appear to be more exposed to this pollution: On average, the authors found that PM2.5 spikes around the Fourth of July were higher in urban census tracts in Southern California, areas that tend to have higher asthma rates, more older individuals and small children, and more Black and Hispanic residents, compared with rural census tracts and those further north. Southern California metropolitan areas also tend to have fewer restrictions on municipal fireworks shows and looser oversight of at-home fireworks use compared with their counterparts in Northern California.
Of course more densely populated areas are more likely to have fireworks than rural areas [partyl because the residents therein set off more], and thus more older individuals and small children, and more Black and Hispanic residents - and more "home shows." Now I do not like the noise of the neighborhood fireworks which goes on for many nights, but that is one of the prices you pay for more jobs, stores and community.
