Jimmy, Rosalynn Carter mark 75 years of ‘full partnership’
Associated Press ^ | July 4, 2021 | Bill Barrow

The young midshipman needed a date one evening while he was home from the U.S. Naval Academy, so his younger sister paired him with a family friend who already had a crush.

Nearly eight decades later, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are still together in the same tiny town where they were born, grew up and had that first outing. In between, they’ve traveled the world as Naval officer and military spouse, American president and first lady, and finally as human rights and public health ambassadors.

“It’s a full partnership,” the 39th president told The Associated Press during a joint interview ahead of the couple’s 75th wedding anniversary on July 7. […]

The nonagenarians — she’s now 93 — offered a few other tips for an enduring bond.

“Every day there needs to be reconciliation and communication between the two spouses,” the former president said, explaining that he and Rosalynn, both devout Christians, read the Bible together aloud each night — something they’ve done for years, even when separated by their travels. “We don’t go to sleep with some remaining differences between us,” he said. …

>>Full partnership?

That’s an odd way to express their marriage. Is that some woke jargon or something?<<

The word “marriage” is racist.

Or triggering.

Or something.

A loving lasting marriage is a precious thing. I can lay politics aside and honor that.

I agree. So far, most commenters on this thread are filled with negativity and clearly miss the point.

They sure came across as nice people, until we got to know what they were really like. Evil.

Any trouble with his views on communism, on homosexuality and “marriage” thereof, on abortion in certain cases (which puts the lie to the “devout Christian” claim) . . . ?
“I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else,” Carter, who describes himself as a born-again Christian, told HuffPost Live.

Carter added, however, that churches that disagree with same-sex marriage should not have to perform them.

Carter also said he has “had a problem with abortion” because he doesn’t believe Jesus would approve of most abortions.

“I have a hard time believing that Jesus would approve abortions unless it was because of rape or incest or if the mother’s life was in danger. So I’ve had that struggle,” Carter said. “I’ve had that struggle, but my oath of office was to obey the Constitution and the laws of this country as interpreted as the Supreme Court, so I went along with that.”

People thought there was “something special” about Obama too. Ever heard the saying, “The devil takes care of his own”?

I agree. If you're going to reach your 75th anniversary, it also helps to get married young and live a long, long time.

75 years of marriage is an accomplishment worthy of praise.

Folks dumping on these two are probably those who are twice divorced and who cannot cite a relationship with anyone longer than a week or two.

His marriage has very little to do with his politics.

So valid criticism is “negativity”. Sounds like something a liberal would say.

Promoters of ideology whose goal is abolition of the family having their family celebrated? That’s kinda hypocritical, yes?

If he’s all for the destruction of others’ families, why celebrate his?

And the Iranians thank him for 42 years of murder, oppression, and torture. "Don't worry Shah I'll protect ya, just as soon as I harvest ma peanuts"

How do you like this, this is Iran in 1978 if you can believe it at a beach by the Caspian sea...

I do not think he was incompetent. Given the venom he’s spewed long after his presidency, and his societal views, I presume the opposite of Hanlon’s Razor with him. (These days, I always presume the opposite of Hanlon’s Razor, whose opposite is proving to be true in all cases.)

Their partnership is based on the destruction of America via the destruction of the family and Christian values. I cannot celebrate that.

The slow methodical indoctrination is creepy as hell...literally.

We were watching a program last evening. The Mist...a series. When watching, seemed like a good, suspenseful series. Little by little, the agenda started creeping in.

Some found themselves seeking shelter from the mist in a church. The sacrilege began. Very subtle at first. They introduce a gay kid, then the actor walking around with a 666 t-shirt on...then it came to the forefront, more prominent so viewers could not miss it.

A scene of gay bashing, then gay kiss between two young guys.in the mens bathroom. Then people laying out all over the alter, instead of resting on the pews.

Then the lesbian stuff, a scene portraying the priest as creepy, the people trapped in the church getting into the communion wine....so, we had to turn it off.

It’s all over the tv now. Not just movies, but regular tv, commercials and so on.

Indoctrination.

His incompetence was so bad, a person has to wonder if it was intentional.

None of that trumps my remembrance of Carter - gas lines, freezing temps in the winter indoors, double digit interest rates and stagflation - along with the “misery index.”

Reagan put an end to all that, Thank God.

Carter is right up there with Obama as one of the worst presidents ever.

Jimmy Carter to me reflects something of moral values but when they come out into public policy that’s when the questions come up?

Carter got Daniel Ortega to give up and let the opposition take office in Nicaragua decades ago. Now the old Communist (Ortega) is arresting anyone who dare challenge him in this year’s elections.

There are good things that Carter has done helping to build houses and so on. I don’t hate him for that.

Jimmy Carter was in Washington for the Donald Trump inauguration in 2017 and DJT acknowledged that with Carter in the room that day.
