Novavax says Taiwan has opted to get the firm’s Covid vaccine via COVAX

Taiwan has chosen to get the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine via the COVAX global sharing scheme for lower-income countries, the company said on Friday, which would add much-needed additional shots to the island’s immunization program.

Taiwan’s vaccine orders include 4.76 million doses from COVAX, though so far it has only received slightly more than 600,000 from the scheme, all AstraZeneca shots.

Novavax, in an emailed statement, said it already had an agreement to supply its vaccine to the COVAX facility.

“Taiwan has opted to receive doses of NVX-CoV2373 through COVAX,” it said, referring to the vaccine’s name and without giving details.

Taiwan’s health minister said this week the government had been in talks with Novavax, though also did not provide details in terms of numbers or a timeline.

Taiwan has struggled to speed up its vaccination program due to global supply shortages, with only around 8% of its 23.5 million people having received at least one of the two-dose vaccine regimen as it deals with a cluster of domestic infections.

Last month, Japan donated 1.24 million AstraZeneca doses and the United States 2.5 million Moderna doses to Taiwan to help speed up vaccinations.

Novavax said last month its Covid-19 vaccine was more than 90% effective, including against a variety of concerning variants of the coronavirus in a large, late-stage U.S.-based clinical trial.

The study of nearly 30,000 volunteers in the United States and Mexico puts Novavax on track to file for emergency authorization in the United States and elsewhere in the third quarter of 2021, the company said.

Novavax is yet another offspring of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. NOvavax skips the mRNA and DNA approaches and just injects pure spike protein.

Like Moderna, the company Novavax was going out of business before being given a contract to make the vax.

  How Novavax works:

  DNA designed to make the spike proteins is put into another virus and that virus is put into moth cells. The DNA instructs the moth cells to mass produce the spike proteins, then the spike proteins are harvested (purified) from the moth cells. 
  
  The spike cells stick together and have the antigenic properties of the Sars 2 Covid virus, without the actual presence of the Covid virus.

Three Important Questions contained in the article...

If you gave me a choice, I would rather my kids have COVID-19 than influenza. So, why would I immunize a demographic that has close to 100% chance of recovery with an experimental vaccine that has already killed more kids than the virus?

If you look at the demographic between 18 and 45, people who are healthy have a 99.95% chance of recovery with no treatment … according to the CDC. Same question, why would I vaccinate a demographic that recovers on its own with no treatment?

Third question, if someone has antibodies — and there’s a plethora of evidence [showing] naturally produced antibodies are much more effective in clearing future viruses than vaccine-induced antibodies … Natural immunity is much better, more effective and safer, than vaccine-induced immunity. So, someone who has antibodies already from having COVID before, why would I vaccinate them? …
