General Hospital star Stuart Damon has died aged 84, his son has confirmed.
The actor, who devoted over 30 years of his life to playing Dr. Alan Quartermaine on ABC's General Hospital and spinoff Port Charles, had been battling renal failure over the past few years.
Stuart's son Christopher announced his passing to ABC7 reporter George Pennacchio and said General Hospital was his father's 'favourite place to be'.

We watched General Hospital in my dorm during the Luke and Laura heyday. The Quartermaine family had its share of villians - scheming sister Tracy, cheating wife Monica, and demanding father Edward.
Dr. Quartermaine! What a shame! Who was his wife? Monica? It was ages ago I watched that show. RIP!
I’m old enough to remember him as a very handsome and charming Prince Charming.
That’s right. With Leslie Ann Warren as Cinderella.
I worked with Stuart on GH years ago and he really was one of the nicest guys ever. He loved his job, loved his GH “family”, and especially loved his real family. RIP, sir.
I watched in college, too.
Me too! That’s the first I saw of him. Never was much into soap operas, though. RIP, Prince Charming.
Yes, Monica (who’s still on the show) was his wife.
RIP. Sadly, GH show producers at the time in 2007 decided to fire him. Arguably the most unpopular act in the history of the show, and us fans were quite enraged. They brought him back a few times as a ghost, but it wasn’t the same.
During the years I watched, he was so possessive of his wife Monica and jealous of her lover Rick Webber. He had a sort of quiet menace about him although he was nice on the surface.
Once I left college, my free time in the afternoon on some days was over, and I stopped watching All My Children and GH. GH had added the Cassidine family, and the world domination plot got very silly. GH turned into a James Bond movie.
I still watch today, but only got into the show after around 2002, though even without having watched before then, I was still aware of the wild storylines. They still reference some of them (like “freezing the world”) 40 years later, albeit as if the stuff was crazy.
The show having shifted a tad to Maurice Benard’s Sonny Corinthos character, it’s had more of a “Godfather-lite” feel to it over the past 15+ years.
My first crush. My sister and I in 1965 both fell in love with Stuart Damon as the Prince in Cinderella. I saw an interview with him where he spoke about the experience. He was a last minute replacement for Jack Jones. He was such a struggling actor that his Agent lent him much needed cash before he boarded the plane to LA. Stuart said that his whole life he was approached by Cinderella fans who always shared their wonderful memories of the show. He never in a million years ever thought it would impact so many for so long. RIP handsome prince.
My favorite Cinderella as a kid.
Thanks for telling us that. Some actors, when they’re on, stand out and grab one’s attention no matter the format. Mr. Damon could have helmed other shows and films but was apparently happy and thankful where he was. There’s more than enough divas and world-eaters to go around with far less talent than Stuart.
