Any type of antacid?
Nope, just those PPI type’s listed.................
0.36% improvement doesn’t seem very significant to me.
If your A1C is, say a normal 5.5, 0.36% of that is a reduction of 0.02, to 5.48. Not noticeable, and for any individual test, probably within the tolerance of the measurement.
Types of PPIs There are many names and brands of PPIs. Most work equally as well.
Side effects may vary from drug to drug.
Omeprazole (Prilosec)
Esomeprazole (Nexium)
Lansoprazole (Prevacid)
Rabeprazole (AcipHex)
Pantoprazole (Protonix)
Dexlansoprazole (Dexilant)
Zegerid (omeprazole with sodium bicarbonate)
That’s exactly what I thought when I saw that number.
Antacids will give you food poisoning. It is the strong stomach acid that protects you from getting sick from that sun warmed potato salad.

Lead author Dr. Peng. Where have I heard that name before. Majority Chinese co-authors. Oh, yes.
I’m assuming Wuhan Institute of Virology isn’t on our can’t publish list.
Why is this notable? Because as it turns out, this is a job posting for the lab of Dr. Peng Zhou (周鹏), Ph.D., a researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and Leader of the Bat Virus Infection and Immunization Group. Some more on Zhou’s background from the Institute (google translated):
... the real reason behind the viral spread is because a weaponized version of the coronavirus (one which may have originally been obtained from Canada), was released by Wuhan’s Institute of Virology (accidentally or not), a top, level-4 biohazard lab which was studying “the world’s most dangerous pathogens“, perhaps it would be a good idea for the same Wuhan Institute of Virology to remove the following “help wanted” notice, posted on November 18, 2019, according to which the institute is seeking to hire one or two post-doc fellows, who will use “bats to research the molecular mechanism that allows Ebola and SARS-associated coronaviruses to lie dormant for a long time without causing diseases.”
The right candidate will:
Have obtained or is about to obtain a PhD in life science/biomedical related fields;
Have a reliable and rigorous work style, with strong independent scientific research ability and teamwork spirit;
Have strong English communication and writing skills, have research papers published in the international mainstream academic journals
Have a cell biology, immunology, genomics and other relevant background experience is preferred;
I’m guessing, but it is possible that this position was not filled in a timely manner.
And his associate Dr. Pong......................
You know what reduces my blood sugar best?
Not eating so goddamn much!

Thanks Red Badger.
My guess is bad decimal point by the jourinalist. 277 * .036 (3.6%, not 0.36%) lower blood sugar by 10 mg/dl
From the actual abstract:
The results show antidiabetic properties for the PPIs with a global glucose-lowering power around 0.6-0.7 % points of HbA1c.
That would be, for 0.36% a reduction, from 180 mg/dl to 179.3 - 179.4 mg/dl. Since 33 or more would call for immediate hospitalization, looks like 18 to 17.3 - 17.4, for a 3.6% reduction, is the correct number.
Pay special attention to the adverse effects and contraindications.
Hmmm...... The benefits seem small.
I’m not aware that omeprazole had any effect on A1c
Omeprazole did contribute significantly to a Vitamin B12 deficiency. The B12 deficiency consisted of Blahs, lassitude and the need for naps. The remedy is a B12 tablet that dissolves under the tongue. Believe it or don’t but the added B12 made me feel very good
Diabetes — the most insidious disease known to mankind. Best income source for Big Pharma and snake oil salesmen.
As a recovered sufferer of Barrett’s esophagus I am on PPIs for life. They are great, other than the risk of osteoporosis and other conditions that result from lack of ability to digest various minerals. And some suggestion of increased risk or dementia. Other than that, though, really great.
I take two 30mg capsules a day. Just had my most recent gastroscopy and colonoscopy last Thursday. I'm done with the colonoscopies...can do Cologuard from now on, and don't have to have another gastroscopy for 3 years, if I'm still alive then.
It's the strong stomach acid that causes Barrett's esophagus that is pre-cancerous, and can kill you.
