My Dell laptop is running blazing fast again!

I tried every trick known to me to speed up my Dell laptop, from defragmenting hard drive to updating drivers. Nothing helped.

I had tried changing the battery setting from one end to other.
It had made no difference in speed. The new (and cheap, not from Dell, just some compatible item made in China) battery charger made the PC run fast again, without any other tweaking.

“Thin sucks”

I hate the keyboards of modern laptops and especially modern *thin* laptops. It’s why ThinkPads still continue to rule.

Mine is plugged into the wall. Just ran a speed test which shows it’s zipping along at super sonic speed of 13 mbps... Sadly, that’s about normal speed. Vyve doesn’t care but has their hand out for payment every month.

If true, you should have seem a BIOS alert at some point when first turning on the computer, telling you your charger was working at a reduced wattage.

If not that, then you had a bad wire in the AC or DC side of the power pack. That’s pretty dangerous. Look for an exposed wire or crushed/folded point. Also, a slight misalignment of the cable that plugs into the AC adapter could make less than optimal contact.

And we have another entry for that old DOS Command "Hit any key to continue"! [Hope I am not dating myself here (grin)!]

I have a weird problem with my 9 year old Mac Mini. I came fairly close to just buying a new one, but found a solution. The machine frequently refuses to wake up after extended periods of sleep. Mouse movements and keyboard strikes fail to wake it. However, if I tap the power button it will wake. I then have to wait for it to go back to sleep before the mouse and keyboard work. It probably needs a new battery, but I am not putting any money into a 9 year old machine..

No alerts of any kind. I just figured it is a old laptop, and that was its normal speed. Now running faster than I can think.

Sounds like a bad connection at the power button.

Us dinosaurs that still use a computer are becoming instinct. Google says join the cloud (whatever that is).

It's a place where you exchange your secure hard drive to a storage domain open to the world.

Next, ran diagnostic tests of hardware. (restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics) I let it run a basic test and also run a extended / thorough tests on the hard drive and the RAM modules and all other hardware components. All passed the test except the battery was flagged as marginal. I noticed the battery was not getting charged much even with the charger plugged in. So looked for a substitute charger on eBay and it was not expensive, so ordered it. Guess what, the laptop is running fast like it was when brand new. Researching more on this, I found out the Intel processor automatically cuts down speed when power supply is inadequate. The processor speed with the new charger is 3 times faster than with the old charger! Hope this might help some others.

I would pay good money for a computer - half of whose hard-drive was dedicated to self-diagnostic software and repair/maintenance software.

During the course of a work-day, the computer would report, e.g.,

"I've noticed that I'm taking up to 15 seconds to open (launch) Windows Explorer. I also notice that double-clicking on a Microsoft Word file takes about 20 seconds to open. A mere six months ago, these times were 9 seconds and 11 seconds, respectively. There are three main possible reasons for this; I have investigated all three and determined that the actual reason is because your deflector phalanx needs to be reconfigured to emit anti-tachyons. If you would like me to do this for you, click on "OK." I'll then need approx. 15 minutes to reconfigure your deflector phalanx - during which time you won't be able to work. The only drawback is that your Outlook software will slow down by about 5%. Shall I do it?

Regards,

Seems that you are not the only one who got rid of McAfee.

I never use the cloud, because my hard drive and USB sticks can store all of my data and more.

From what I know, “cloud” is a place to store your data. You can use it as backup storage or any other data storage.

What are the top 15 disadvantages to migrating to the Cloud (in descending order of importance)?

What are the 15 top advantages?

Will it take less than 10 minutes to migrate?

Do I have to have a Master's in IT to do it?

rotating hard drive. Running blazing fast now after buying

How can you tell? How much (rpms) faster? 5%? 7%? 13.5%?

Nothing wrong with the power button/switch, but there is likely an issue with the power management system of the computer. I am not willing to spend 10 bucks on a new battery to find out..

Another thing I hate...no number keypad on the right side.

I HATE my Dell Inspiron 14 3000. It was all I could afford and it is sooooo slow. I need something faster that will not be a financial strain on my budget.
