I tried to use McAfee anti-virus many years ago when I had an XP system. It made the start up troublesome and long and made everything run incredibly slowly. I dumped it and never used McAfee again. Sorry that this happened to him, but I never liked his product.

I used McAfee for some time, until they did an update which not only updated the critical virus checking info, but updated the software to a whole new version. With that version, when I did not a year later immediately renew the subscription, to get the latest virus checking info, the McAfee software itself quit working altogether.

I noted in phone conversation with McAfee that that situation had never been the case in the past. The software had always in the past continued to do the virus checking using whatever was the last updated virus checking info. No longer they said.

I switched to Norton at that point.

And, no, I will not use the Russian’s Kaspersky, no matter how global they have become.

When I was in the biz, the first thing I used to do when setting up customers’ new PCs was to remove McAfee.

I use to have tell callers to uninstall Norton you have to go to their website and find their separate uninstaller software as the the one that should have worked in windows did not remove all the bits. I tried it a few years ago and it bluescreened my Windows 7 pc. I now use Webroot.

I have had few issues with Norton in the last five or six years. Yes, it’s footprint is a little heavy but neither of my two PC’s have suffered with it.
