Actually, for a long time, there was a privately owned Mig-15 at the Tallahassee airport. It was a beautiful blood red with a Soviet star on the tail, if I recall. So, you can buy fighter aircraft. But at thousands of dollars per hour to operate and limited availability of missiles...well, it’s better to buy a sniper rifle. It’s hard to counter that with an F-15 and nuclear weapons. (See the DC sniper for some insights.)

Back about 15 years ago or so we all got excited here on FR when a surplus aircraft carrier was up for sale on eBay. With some research we found out it was originally British built and was at the time docked in Brazil. Some of us felt it would be good force projection for FR since we’d have deferred to Jim to be commander in chief.
