Back about 15 years ago or so we all got excited here on FR when a surplus aircraft carrier was up for sale on eBay. With some research we found out it was originally British built and was at the time docked in Brazil. Some of us felt it would be good force projection for FR since we’d have deferred to Jim to be commander in chief.

I think the super charger location may have been an issue. I don’t think the speed would have improved much. The Lightening was aptly named and the later models could hit 450 mph and push the sound barrier in a dive.

Since the Lancaster, and Mosquito bombers used that engine they had them turned both ways.

Another funny what if: What if the British had bought a right to manufacture the 2000 HP, Pratt and Whitney Double Wasp engine that was used in the F4U Corsair and F6F Hell Cat and strapped one on to the front of a Hawker Hurricane?
