My Adventures at Canadian Tire

Posted on 06/17/2021 8:06:18 PM PDT by Jonty30

I went to Canadian Tire to buy a knapsack, because the handle of mine had torn completely off and these knapsacks aren't really repairable once they become damaged with a big hole on the side.

For those who may not be aware of what Canadian Tire, it's a hardware department store that sells automobile services as well as automobile supplies, reasonably priced and quality tools, camping and sporting goods and seasonal furniture.

I had my face bandana on, but was not wearing it over my face. I walked through the store and found my knapsack and was walking towards tills when somebody walks up to me in a green hoodie and says, "Excuse me sir, why aren't you wearing your face mask?"

I replied while looking at him and walking towards the tills, "I think I will let a Canadian Tire employee tell me that."

He replied, "I am a Canadian Tire Employee", while he started unzipping his hoodie to show his red shirt in all its glory.

I replied, "I think I will let a Canadian Tire manager tell me that."

That's when he replied, "Whatever."

I was hoping that he would call a manager, to which I would have respected, because I needed the knapsack more than standing on principle.

To me, that's really the way to get the mask mandate ended, just keep driving up the costs of time and effort to enforcing it. At some point, it becomes pointless to enforce it.

THAT's what I seek.

Simple really...

In the last year, I got challenged four times for not wearing a mask. The first three times I told them no, but thank you for your concern and that was it. The last time however, about two months ago, I walked into a Goodwill resale shop. This guy comes running toward me like his hair was on fire pointing to his face saying sir sir sir sir like I was some sort of leper. Screw him, kept looking around.

We live in a secluded part of Berlin because it is a peninsula at the river Spree. So we had to travel to food shop. This area was a swampy industrial waste zone but really beautiful otherwise. In recent years they have done the most impressive land and water clean-up and development I ever thought possible. Now a lot of our neighbors are rich.

Part of the development is a long tall building that includes a supermarket food store that is only two blocks from us. Yesterday was opening day so my wife and I went at 7am. We only spent about 10 euros on breakfast stuff because we wanted to go again when our daughter woke-up.

When we entered the supermarket opening day they offered a glass of orange juice or champagne. There is a bakery and an escalator going up to the supermarket.

So, we were the first ones in, the first ones up the escalator, the first ones paying (I think) and then there were the options of being the first ones down the escalator, down the stairs or down the elevator. I told my wife let’s be the first ones down the elevator.

The elevator went down but the door failed to open and it would not move so we were stuck for almost an hour. When they got the door to open I stepped out with no mask on and got another glass of orange juice. Then a worker walk by and signaled to me to wear a mask so I took some steps outside.

That’s it. That’s what I got. Take it or leave it.

Later when we went back with our daughter the escalator was broke too. But it’s a great supermarket and we are very happy. The bakery is awesome too.

I went to Kroger today - big sign on the door, everyone must wear a mask. So I pulled up my bandana, when I got inside, no one was wearing a mask, not even the employees.

It’s really the ideal way to resist, imo. No big fights and I recognize the authority of those that were within the Canadian Tire, although I was going to drive the issue to the highest authority for the sake of it, had it gone that far.

If some manager wants to spend his day enforcing mask mandates and ignoring his core work, that’s his prerogative.

We are winning.

At the Canadian Tire, most employees on the floor weren’t wearing masks anyway.

I was just manhandled by a little Lord Fauntleroy. He was of the flamboyant variety.

A worker took my wife’s email address and we already heard from the owner who wants to meet us. Maybe a gift. I#ll take one of those 40€ steaks they sell to the rich people.

No masks here in Delco PA. except my doctors offices.

My doctor never required a mask since all this nonsense started. We also never had a state mask mandate.

Canada would not take my state (CT) anyway—too many blacks and hispanics for their Whitopia.

Mrs. OiB asked her doc ON A VIDEO CALL to pull her mask down so she could better understand the patient care instructions (kind of important, wouldn’t you say???).
The doc replied that she couldn’t do that because she was still in the hospital in her office.
Mrs. OiB then asked “how many people are IN your office right now???
“None”
Aren’t you vaccinated, Doc???
“Of course!”
“So, you are vaccinated, in your office alone, talking to me through a mask on a video call, and I am EIGHT MILES AWAY????
Okaaaaay, I see now”

I’ve long said that Canada is a fascist nation.

It is, as fascism is textbook defined.

My doctor was wearing the standard rectangular mask a month ago. I noticed it was only attached at the top corners. I regret verbally admiring it with his staff standing nearby.

I would have told the manager that “I am tire(d) of this crap”. I’ll shop elsewhere”.

So your rights arre superior to the owner’s private property rights?

The evidence on mask wearing being effective is conflicting at best and the recent Nashville study suggests it is not nearly as effective as claimed.

But it’s disappointing when people act as though they have a right to shop at a store - and barring discrimination based on race, etc, they ignore store rules (no matter how misguided).

A couple months ago my daughter and I went to our local casino for a girls’ night. We ended up by the bar in a little alcove with 2 chairs and a table. We took our masks down to drink but they were still attached to our ears, and then we kept them off while we talked. We had 2 separate incidents of staff members coming over to tell us we needed to keep our masks on. I pushed back, partly because I was a little tipsy, but they were insistent. They said it was because they didn’t offer food. Like Covid won’t strike if you’re in a restaurant, FFS.

Just keep costing the manager his time and it makes it less likely that he will enforce the rules.
