Amazon has been hiring hundreds of thousands of workers for roles in its warehouses, which it calls fulfillment centers, but those employees have been quitting almost as fast as they can be hired, according to a huge report from The New York Times published on Tuesday.

Many of the over 350,000 workers Amazon hired from July to October stayed with the company "just days or weeks," the report said.

There was a controversy here in Phoenix a few years ago - where employees had to clock out before going through an exit security screening which could take 30-40 minutes

Here is what amazon does to you.

A guy in my hometown worked for Amazon in Indianapolis as deliver driver.
Totally brutal, if you had a really good delivery day (minimal traffics, the planets lined up etc) Amazon would up your productivity requirements to that day.

It was near impossible to meet and yes he peed in a bottle and ate his lunch while driving.

He was hit by a woman one day and Amazon fired him. Yes they fire the drivers even if it is not their fault.Look it up.

Fundamental changes can occur as well, without gunfire.

“What happens is if you’re a major producer they increase your quota/metrics accordingly and demand that you produce even more. And if you hit a plateau of maximum production then they’ll fire you for not increasing production at a steady rate.”

See my post #83 You are spot on.

Take care of your people, and they’ll take care of you - CPO Sherby Hart (North Daviess HS 1980s)

Treat em like s&&t and they’ll hit the bricks - LT Reed, (North Daviess ‘85; USNA ‘89 circa 1995)

I’ve lived by this since a youngster (non-USNA I mean) and it still holds true. Ready to leave my current position if leadership doesn’t come through on inflation adjustments - letter is written...budget allows for 5% and they are waffling. For me it’s an integrity issue.

AWS=Amazon Web Services.

Think renting time on their computers.

This is a system problem with capitalism. Labor is arbitraged down to the lowest GLOBAL common denominator. Then life sucks so bad the socialists take over. Lather, rinse, repeat...

...and if the mom & pop’s products are strong sellers, amazon clones them and crowds mom & pop out of the market.

Most Freepers think capitalism is a perfect system. It is not. Responsible adults and PATRIOTS need to step in when it is causing harm...

Nobody wants to WORK anymore.

I wondered the same thing. Does it really SUCK to work at Amazon or is this a generational thing? Or maybe a combination.

After a lifetime of pretty much liking my jobs (with a couple of exceptions), I am now working at a company that I loathe and detest. But I still go to work every day and will hang in there until I find a better option. (Or they lay me off...oh, please lay me off!)

I worked for a smaller company, Ontrack, which basically had semis unload packages onto a conveyor system and the workers would sort the packages according to zip codes. They had those conveyors cranked up real fast, which made pulling big truck tires off and getting them staged at the proper codes difficult (the tires would drop down off the conveyor and smack your feet). You would have a 75 foot section of conveyor you had to sort from with 10 zip codes. People would say, “If you thing this is bad, you should work at Amazon! They treat their workers like s**t!” I would say Ontrack was no better the way they cranked up their conveyors.

No but the only way that happens is by Amazon brutalizing people with rotten working conditions.

So cheap prices and brutality work for you?

You must just love Chinese sweatshops and brutality too.

A family friend works for an Amazon affiliate, Whole Foods. As a stocker she must call in on a first come first serve basis to get a time slot to come in and work. She gets ready to call the very second the slots open up. Within seconds it’s full and she is out of luck. She can’t do the work and make money if they won’t give her hours. There seems to be no way to succeed. Apparently Amazon tries to save money this way; there is no need for a layer of management if this time allocation is all automated. So if they burn through all their people bc they were penny wise and pound foolish, I have no sympathy.
