Amazon burns through workers so quickly that executives are worried they'll run out of people to employ, according to a new report

Amazon has been hiring hundreds of thousands of workers for roles in its warehouses, which it calls fulfillment centers, but those employees have been quitting almost as fast as they can be hired, according to a huge report from The New York Times published on Tuesday.

Many of the over 350,000 workers Amazon hired from July to October stayed with the company "just days or weeks," the report said.

This is true, I worked at a facility for about two years, They encourage the department managers to write up 10% of their workers each week. It was something like one bad week you got a point against you. I think it was like 4 bad weeks over a period of time and they fired you. Anyway to make it easy for the managers to do this dirty work they set the goals ridiculously high, I worked on stocking shelves for awhile and they were so full it was ridiculously and you could only put so many items on the shelf, so you had to find those spots that had an item or two less then the maximum allowed. Basically you wore your self trying to find those empty spots. Anyway the facility I worked at they would get 100 workers a week for the stocking department and half of the would say this is B#ll and quit. Another half the next week and it would not be long before only a few of those hundred would be left. The work place was cliquish and full of liars that lied to protect their lying friends.

Want to get a Louisiana Grills electric smoker as soon as I can convince my wife.

If I was an Amazon employee, I’d be organizing a union yesterday.

It would have to be a national or regional strike. A local one wouldn’t be effective.

Seems like unions are the lesser of two evils.

Amazon had the heads up this report was coming. Hence CBS and Amazon did a puff piece about how Amazon is going full tilt on Warehouse automation and employee ergonomic studies. This aired on the CBS Sunday Morning Show last Sunday.

Dont know about Ace but you can order online from Lowes and Home Depot and have it delivered to their store for you to pick up (no shipping fees)

I’ve ordered from both Ace and HD with good results. I just find the Amazon experience to be very good and much easier. And they have good customer service.

I bought a new Hoover battery powered vacuum on Amazon a couple weeks ago. It plainly said “new” on the listing. They sent me a used one as a collection of parts in a plain brown cardboard box. Each part was wrapped in a heavy duty poly bag, but it was obviously used. I got hold of Amazon customer service on the phone and the person profusely apologized, then sent me a brand new one, and said to keep the used one they sent me by mistake at no charge. We have a two-story house, so the extra vac went to the upstairs.

The customer service person told me that they know we have been an excellent over 20-year customer and that they want to keep us happy. I was really impressed by that.

Try shopping local. Maybe suggest to some shopkeepers some of the more commonly ordered items.

Whenever possible, I shop local. I feel guilty for having Amazon Prime, but I use it primarily for emergencies or hard-to-find items.

I suggest folks stop buying from amazon. Plenty of small buisness out there.

That’s essentially what we have been doing.

Mr. mm has found Ebay to be a good source. You can buy right from the company and the prices are usually lower than Amazon.

We won’t buy from Amazon unless there are no other options.

The folks who left after a few day or weeks - will NEVER apply for a job with Amazon again...AND they talk to friends. Amazon has one horrible reputation.

Because of my extreme dislike for Amazon and Bezos, I’ve been doing my online purchasing at Walmart.com. Sometimes I need something that can not be found at any store locally and Amazon could provide it. I have been able to find those obscure items at Walmart.com and buy it there. No more Amazon. No more Bezos.

That’s nice to hear about their customer service. Most places dont care about loyal customers anymore.

There’s work, and then there’s Amazon.

Every moment of your presence onsite is tracked. They track everything all the time. Stop to scratch your nose and they’ll ask why you aren’t multitasking.

My B-I-L works at one. He had more fun in Iraq being shot at, and more rest as an inductee at Pendleton. They work their staff more unrelentingly than you can imagine.

Starting at 4 AM for 10 hours daily, 2 10 minute breaks, OR one half-hour lunch. Think basic training forever. At just over minimum wage.

People are not machines.

Nobody wants to WORK anymore.

This!
I have every confidence that if a person showed up consistently and cared about their job, the opportunities for advancement are available and numerous. There has never been a time when this is more true. The labor force is a mess.
