The not-so-great news: Scientists now believe that one in five Americans over age 65 experiences some form of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which may affect memory, decision-making, or reasoning skills. In many cases, MCI advances into more severe forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.
The good news: Mounting scientific evidence proves that a lot of our risk for any form of cognitive impairment is in our own hands. Our lifestyle choices each and every day (including these 13 healthy habits) can drastically increase or decrease the likelihood that we'll be diagnosed with dementia.
Research just published in the Frontiers in Endocrinology suggests that one of those habits-exercise-and a specific form of it may be best for our brains. Individuals who performed moderate-to-vigorous aerobic exercise 3 times per week that increased in intensity over the course of the 6-month study experienced a boost in healthy brain biomarkers.
Previous studies have found that aerobic exercise (AKA any form of cardio, from walking to cycling to dancing) can boost the amount of gray and white matter in the brain, enhance blood flow to the brain and preserve or perhaps even improve memory.

I am living proof, that regular exercise keeps one healthy in body and brain. At age 81, I can still write complicated computer programs. I require ZERO medications, never need to see the doctors.
This is my exercise routine: 25 minutes on treadmill covering one mile with 1 pound wrist weights and treadmill set to 2 degrees up-slope. After the treadmill routine, I work with the weight machines pulling 20 lb weights 30 times. Been doing this routine 5 days every week for 5 years.
Now this exercise has convinced me, one does not need to get weak and feeble and lose balance at age 81. Actually my goal is to be able to do similar routine at age 100.

According to that study, such a person may ‘prevent’ dementia merely with exercise. Laughable from my position. According to some rather ignorant people I’ve read about and have listened to - including some well known people having enriched themselves on the backs of those with impaired health - they claim exercise and mere ‘diet’ is panacea, yet I’ve known far too many healthy people drop dead having regularly engaged exercise. ‘Diet’, too.
I also know people who lost their marbles who did BOTH.
Again, ‘myopic study’.

Summary: Increased bloodflow carries away cellular waste products, restoring neurological function (my interpretation). In short, dementia was proven by this technique to be not a neurological disorder, but an effect of toxicity (brain death).
Should have been a wake up call 6 years ago, but big pharma is betting big on ‘treatments’.

The vast majority of people do not have chronic inflammation.
For those, clean diet and exercise will work to forestall dementia. As they are the key to strong blood flow.
And there are innumerable other benefits to clean diet and exercise.

Yet SIP(shelter-in-place) was just the opposite - and fostered the opposite of good health. If we must stay inactive, reduced caloric intake is a must.
