Hi All,
I don't post here often, but I would greatly appreciate some prayers for me and my family as we navigate the painful predicament we find ourselves to be in.
My 18-year old black short-hair cat, Salem, was diagnosed with feline leukemia last Friday. Over the last two weeks, he has progressively gotten more lethargic, has eaten less and less, and has been shedding quite significantly. We took him to our local veterinarian on Friday given these troubling symptoms and were informed of Salem's diagnosis by the vet.
Last night, we made the difficult decision to euthanize him this coming Wednesday as he has refused any form of solid food and the prognosis for Felv cats at Salem's age is simply too uncertain.
I ask that you pray for my family and my cat as we spend our last 24 hours together. I also ask for prayers for a peaceful transition to Heaven for Salem marked by comfort, fearlessness, and happiness.
Thank you all and God Bless.
“Kinda snide and who asked”
...exactly what I love about FR. Keeps it interesting.
One of the saddest-and most merciful-things that one does in a lifetime.
Completely understand the emotions.
Prayers to all.
I know this is so hard and I am sorry for your loss. As a fellow Freeper once told me, “Euthanasia is your final gift to your pet. Think of it as easing his/her suffering and a loving act”. Your kitty knew she was loved all her life. She knew it at the end as well. (((Hugs))) Mom
Geez... keep it to yourself then for crying out loud. As my uncle used to sya, “If ya ain’t got nuthin’ good to stay, shut the eff up!”
🙏❤
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
Rejoice in the fact that you gave this animal such a caring, loving life. Keeping your family in prayer.
You may be a stranger, but the rest of us are friends.
You and your family and kitty are in my wife and I prayers. It wasn’t very long we had to put ours to sleep. She was 18 also. Had a great life. These furry ones are for sure family.
Sorry you are going through this.
We love our furry friends so much, and it is hard to say goodbye...but it is th right thing to do.
Be comforted in knowing that Our Creator approves of your kindness:

Proverbs 12:10 The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
Prayers for you, your family and your cat.
You will most certainly see your cat again.
Animals live in a natural state of Grace with God.
They do not sin and God takes them all to be with Him in heaven.
God loves our animals more than we do.
He created each and every one of them.
Not one sparrow falls without God.
I’m so sorry! We went through that with our 13-year-old Fiona on December 1. I still cry every day.
I want to share what happened later on. Fiona (13) and Mel (10) were buds. After they ate their morning treats in their usual designated spots, Mel would walk by Fiona sitting under the kitchen desk, and sit down and face her. He’d go “brp” a few times to her, and she’d go “brp” back, and that would last for about five minutes. They’d split but always managed to be in the same room as each other.
After she was gone, after he ate eat, he’d walk to where she used to be and look confused. A couple times each day he would walk around the house with a plaintive howl. He did that for about four months — we assumed looking for Fiona.
Then one day we watched him purposely walk to the built-in cabinet with book shelves on top. He immediately walked to the shelf with the box with her ashes sealed in, and sniffed the box for quite a while. Then he sat down next to it for about an hour. He left, and the howling stopped. He stopped looking under the desk — a quick glance but walked on by.
My friend said, “She told him where she was.” True? I don’t know. It just seemed interesting. FWIW.
Things happen with pets that we can’t understand. Salem knew he was loved and I think you’ll see him again.
Losing a pet, especially a furry one, is similar to losing a beloved family member. Praying for your peace of mind and for your cat’s comfort. God bless you and your family. Trust in the LORD.
‘Kinda snide and who asked’. Really? Kamala Harris was ‘that little girl’.
“Geez... keep it to yourself then for crying out loud. As my uncle used to say, “If ya ain’t got nuthin’ good to stay, shut the eff up!” I didn’t believe ‘George Floyd was getting his life back in order’
‘You may be a stranger, but the rest of us are friends. ‘A cat may be special to it’s family but it is not a human being.
The left will lead our emotions down THEIR hole. If I had a son it would not be like Travon.
You’re doing the right thing. Went through this same thing with my little cat, a long time ago.
I pray someday you may see your pet again.
Remember that God sees even the sparrow that falls. They are all his creatures too and he will take care of them.
Your heart is tender. May the good God keep it so.
Prayers!
Praying.
WTF does Harris and Floyd have to do with this poster putting her cat down ?
Your delusional at best
praying for comfort for you. We do love our 4 legged babies and it’s sad when their time comes.
Although you will NEVER replace them, I highly encourage you to consider getting another kitty soon as it really does lessen the sadness and fills the heart again.
Our cat had to be put down because of that several years ago. You must wait at least 6 months before you get another cat, to avoid the new cat from contracting it from around your home. It’s hard to lose a beloved pet; the LORD grant you peace and comfort in your loss.
Our dear pets are family. We understand.
