“”The whiter the bread the quicker you’re dead.””

Yep...

Can’t help you. I used to bake my own bread but upon becoming diabetic, I avoid carbs and sugar. No more bread, potatoes, and rice for me. Swerve is my sugar substitute of choice.

Killer Dave’s. Available at Costco and most grocery stores. Pricey but worth it IMHO.

When I was a kid, I used to put white sugar on white bread as my sandwich.

“Wheat” bread seems to be the standard today, 50 different brands. I remember when it was white bread, then white bread or wheat bread, now it’s 500 kinds of wheat bread that suck, and other things like potato bread, etc.

My wife uses an Italian bread that (not a rolled, it’s flat) for French toast, I’m going to try that.

Thanks everybody, I’ll review all the suggestions, Freepers are awesome!

This is my kind of thread because I get to virtue signal and tell the Freeper world that I no longer eat bread.

Well, I might have bread once in a while. But as others are sure to point out, most bread is full of empty carbs and is akin to eating a tablespoon of sugar for every slice. When I want to make a sandwich, I have some low-carb tortilla wraps for that.

I also make an exception for pizza. One of the foods I refuse to give up in my low-carb regimen. But I do eat it much less these days.

Make my own, its easy.

Book: “The New Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day”

More than 5 minutes actually, but totally worth it.

The old ladies in my family made brown bread — it was sticky with molasses. Put a stick of butter on a toasted slice of that, and you were in heaven.

There are two local bakeries. We alternate. Usually we get multigrain which has a variety of seeds and grains. Sometimes we get wheat with walnuts and raisins. Yum. We rarely eat white bread. So the multigrain costs more but its worth it.

My wife does the Tortilla thing for sandwiches. It is a good idea, I should do that more often. Can’t toast a tortilla for breakfast though.

Whole grain, if you look, has fiber. “Wheat Bread” is just brown.

The brown bread in the grocery store is just brown , white bread. If the fiber is the same per slice why pay 30 cents extra?

I've gotten used to the tortilla wraps. But their expiration dates scare me. Sometimes my wife brings them home with an expiration date three or four months from now.

Doesn't seem natural that these things would have such a long shelf life. But I haven't come across a moldy one yet.

I make eggs every morning and used to always toast English Muffins to have with them. My own homemade Egg McMuffins. But I learned to have just the eggs without the English muffins. I fry them in a non-stick skillet with real butter. Just takes me three minutes and the pan just wipes clean for the next morning.

What a MORON!

If you want to get the jab, y’all go ahead. If you want to eat “white” bread (you RACISS!), y’all go ahead. /s

FIRST of all.... All “wheat” bread is not “100% WHOLE WHEAT”. Wait... MOST “wheat” bread is not “100% WHOLE WHEAT”.

Does it plainly say “100% WHOLE WHEAT” on the packaging? (within my “quotes” did you see the word “honey”, NO)

If it doesn’t, you have been had by marketing.

Sara Lee Sara Lee 100% Whole Wheat Bread, Made with Whole Grains is the best “soft sandwich bread”.

“Sara Lee Whole Wheat Bread Baked without high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors or flavors, our 100% Whole Wheat Bread is made with whole grains for a wholesome taste”

It’s a bit pricey. $2.78.

Just as good is Great Value “100% WHOLE WHEAT” (no honey). This soft sandwich bread is just as good as Sara Lee, but at a much lower price point. $1.48 (I ALWAYS wanted to use that phrase in a sentence “price point”) Bucket list... check!

If you are near a “Wegmans” they have their generic “Wegmans” brand “100% WHOLE WHEAT” (no honey) soft sandwich bread. I buy the 2 pack for $1.50 per loaf. ($3.00 for the mathematically challenged).

Probably comes from the exact same bakery as the Great Value Walmart bread.

100% WHOLE WHEAT
NO high fructose corn syrup
NO honey
Low sugar content
No sugar substitutes

AND, as Tony would say.... Tastes Grrrrrrreat!

I bought a loaf of this at Walmart the other day. Not bad at all. Kind of spongy. 0g net carbs. https://www.healthylifebread.com/product/healthy-life-keto-bread/

I eat a lot of seeded Jewish rye even though I’m Methodist myself. Most rye breads are mostly wheat and barley with a little rye thrown in.
