I was almost a physics professor except (1) I suck at math (2) couldn’t afford college and (3) (and this is the biggie) I’m not very smart. So I came this close (showing thumb and forefinger) to being a physics professor.

Talk about an expensive hobby, ham radio is it. Everyone I listened to while monitoring the 10 meter band (I think that’s what it was) had a considerably large net worth. And it cost me some bucks just to set up the receiver/antenna arrangement I had at the time.

It can be, but when I was on the air, I chose to do HF and 2 meters/440 only. Otherwise it probably would get too expensive. 😀

Yes, ham radio can be very expensive if the ham wants the latest/greatest. However, it can be entered very economically. However, used gear in good condition goes on the market all the time for a fraction of the original cost.

Yes, it can be expensive. One thing I have learned after being an active ham for 33+ years is if you buy cheap, you’ll have to buy twice. On the other hand there is upgrading. I have a great radio now but comes the day when another will be produced that has newer features that will ultimately drive me to buy again.
