As long as they are secure aren’t don’t give them unfettered access to the internet. Wouldn’t put it past some of the ones in jail for illegal hacking to find a way of breaking through any blocks to allow them to do so.

However, if it does facilitate them improving their education or skills then that is good is it not? Unless you are going to lock up every criminal forever it is better that they are given the opportunities to make themselves more employable in honest work when they leave than unleashing them back into society just as dumb and ill educated as they were when they arrived.

Imagine all those lithium batteries and what kind of havoc they could create in a prison…

The goal, according to ODOC, is to reduce the chance that an inmate will be incarcerated again following their release.

Karnac says, “goal unlikely to be realized”.

They are already in NY State prisons. They upload and download at kiosks installed in the blocks. The entire project is paid for by Securus and they make their money by charging inmates for various content and email delivery. The big story during all of the public protest when this was announced was that it would be at no cost to taxpayers. I know at one facility at least, that they have half dozen COs on overtime to run the inmates to the kiosks so they can connect their tablets. This happens every day. The state spends tens of thousands in overtime at that one facility. every month.

How about champagne and roses in the chow hall? I was under the impression prison was supposed to be a punishment.

There are some places in the world where you have to pay the state real money for your upkeep in prison.

This is the modern way of having a library I suppose but the opportunity for mischief is greater.

I thought the whole idea of prison was to make it so terrible you would want to never go back. Not so much but still a terrible place to be.

Hi.

I’m guessing there’s at least one code slinger and one system engineer incarcerated in OK.

Two months and there will be gambling, porn and various other internet crimes that will insue.

Hope I’m wrong.
