Nothing replaces anchovies as the worst pizza topping not even the loud bugs.

I’m one of those weirdos who likes anchovies. On pizza, in puttanesca, on an antipasto plate...heck yeah. So did both parents and a couple of my siblings.

I’ll take a hard pass on the cicadas, though.

“I loved chemistry.”

Especially organic, and physics and calculus. English was hell on earth.

My brain just isn’t there.

I’ve heard crayfish referred to as “mudbugs.” Heard a guy in a bar say that koalas were in the cat family, too. Gotta pick your battles. I know a guy that’s allergic to shellfish. Pretty sure he wouldn’t eat a cicada, either, but that proves nothing. I suppose that they’d test for the protein responsible for shellfish allergies if they thought a lot of people would be eating cicadas.

Mommy, mommy! Do olives have big red eyes and wings or did someone just dress them up to look like Mayor Lori Lightfoot?

We call ‘em mudbugs in Texas. It’s mudbug season right now. 😋

Looove anchovies on a pizza, or in anything. It’s also the preferred condiment for ancient Romans (garum).

I’ve been told the biggest reason for anchovies on pizza is so the parlor can sell a lot more beer.

I also like ‘em on pizza mebbe once in a blue moon with plenty of dark beer.

A few days ago, while I was stuck in a dentist’s chair, the telescreen was showing a local morning TV program that featured cicadas as food. There were a bunch of adults standing around and a single boy, maybe 10 years old.

After the delicacy was prepared, one by one the adults dutifully consumed their sauteed cicada, and agreed that they were at least edible.

Finally, the kid popped one in his mouth and immediately spit it out.

I LMAO.

“I remember a National Geographic article claiming that fried cicadas tasted like shrimp.”

I live in Cicada Central. Some people here call them Tree Shrimp.

And no, I have not tried one...

America WAS great it is now a mere shell of what it once was!! HEARTBREAKING!!

If this is the reason, eating cicadas, why you think “America WAS great”, the only thing HEARTBREAKING is you and your opinion.

Cicadas come around every 17 years. That means they came about in 1766 (and earlier), 1783, 1800, 1817, 1834, 1851, 1868, 1885, 1902, 1919, 1936, 1953, 1970, 1987, 2004, and now 2021.

Notice the years because Cicadas have been around for a long time and they have always been eaten by humans when they have appeared. The disappointment is your opinion about people eating Cicadas as if your opining on this subject matters. People eating cicadas has been going on before 1766 and before the foundation of this country.

With all due respect, I think you were a bit harsh with Trump Girl.

She and the rest of us are here to opine on various and sundry things under the sun.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts, Trump Girl. :)

Actually it's a wise nutritional choice. For cicadas have a similar taste/nutrition profile to shrimp. And many of us like shrimp on our pizza! Really no big difference.

Also, cicadas are in plentiful supply (and for a limited time). Hopefully the kids grow up and provide the same treat to their own children in 17 years.

“Then there are those who snap / tear a crawdad in half and joyfully suck out the contents of the head ...”

Well, that’s just not the same thing. One’s a bug and one’s...well, not really a bug.
