My mother regarded everything from cockroaches to crawdads to sand crabs as “bugs” for some reason. Have no idea why. Oddly enough, she would eat lobster — IF it was removed from the shell and cut into pieces first. When my dad was stationed at Eglin AFB in FL one summer and we went to visit him, he tried everything — with zero success — to get her to sample the chocolate-covered ants all the souvenir shops were hawking.
