The latest episode of Microsoft Is Poking Me Through The Windows involves a pop-up message that appears in Windows 10's purpose-built notification center.
It reads: "Microsoft recommends different browser settings. Want to change them?"
I fancy most people would sniff: "Oh, do please run along. I'm perfectly happy with my settings, whatever they are, and I have a lot to do today, thank you."
Redmond, though, is undeterred. The notification adds that you'll get "Search that gives you back time and money." And "fast and secure search results with Bing."
Oh, yes. Bing, the MySpace to Google's Facebook, is still being pushed.

They did learn.
You still have Windows, dont you?
They learned you’d stick with Windows despite their crap.
I’ve been using Brave browser, also. I like it.
I have Win10 and have never gotten that message.
As you know, they learned very well. To start with they made pesky users “Users” and now “Owners”. That way they can do what they wish with the copy of their software you have chosen to install on your machine, and use in accordance with their EULA.
But you’ve known this for all those years ;-)
It’s only with Microsoft Edge

Another Brave user. I haven’t transitioned to Duck Duck Go.

if you’re not the customer
you’re the product
Not me, I got a MacBook Air and left Windows behind and I am happy.
I don't know if it stops it entirely, but I've had far fewer times opening up my laptop and it congratulating me on the most recent Windows update with everything I had running shutdown and often unsaved.
I’ve been using “Startpage” search FWIW.
Cutesy messages like that would get old awfully fast.
The solution is no such messages at all.
But of course Microsoft doesn’t care.
I was done with Microsoft Windows when they began to booger up Windows 7. I had new Corel products that wouldn’t start until I rolled back one of their updates that was sent out to prepare my OS for the Windows 10 update.
Then I discovered a bug in the OS related to the USB ports.
Linux Mint be’s mo’ better.
I assume you're speaking to Windows users as a group, not me in particular. My current machines (both personal and work) are Macs, with both Linux and Win10 running on them as VMs, so that I have all three environments on the same computer. The Win10 VMs are for those few applications that require Windows, or which run better on Windows than the other OSes.
At present, my dayjob requires that I have Win10 available (in addition to the other two). On my personal machine, there are only two applications I run Win10 for: an MP3 tag manager, and a graphics program. Were it not for those I probably wouldn't bother with the Win10 VM.
I tolerate Microsoft's crap, but it's only about 3% of my computing time, so it's quite tolerable.
Man that was some amusing justice.
We need to bring that trend back p
I use Brave, also. Do you know where it originated? A lot of their pictures seem to be from the Far East.
Ehh, not so much. First the "Owner" designation only applies to Windows "Home" edition, the lowest level release; in all serious releases ("Pro" and higher), "Owner" doesn't exist. There's an "Administrator".
"Owner" refers to the hardware computer, not Windows. Windows is not for sale -- you get a license to run it, but you never, ever "own" it.
And while the user does indeed have to stay within the terms of the EULA, they do not get to do what they want with it. For that, you need to eschew both Windows and MacOS, and install Linux or a similar non-proprietary, FOSS OS.
