Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to build new kind of nuclear reactor in Wyoming
The Guardian UK ^ | 02 Jun 2021 | Reuters staff

Power companies run by billionaire friends Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have chosen Wyoming to launch the first Natrium nuclear reactor project on the site of a retiring coal plant.

TerraPower, founded by Gates about 15 years ago, and power company PacifiCorp, owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, said on Wednesday that the exact site of the Natrium reactor demonstration plant was expected to be announced by the end of the year....

...The project features a 345 megawatt sodium-cooled fast reactor with molten salt-based energy storage that could boost the system’s power output to 500MW during peak power demand. TerraPower said last year that the plants would cost about $1bn....

I recently watched Sky King, a favorite when I was a kid

It was terrible, just terrible.

Yes they are— all here will recall when Anti-Nuke was PRO-Coal. Now they are PRO Nuke and Anti-Coal.

From the GE design description at Natrium:

“The waste it does generate needs to be stored for just a few hundred years.”

Waste generated from the nuclear waste from water cooled reactors. Will Yucca Flats underground storage be allowed to store THIS new radioactive “waste”?

And, it is connected to Cheney, and the cabal of Gates and Buffett (who GOT his Burlington Northern tank car shipping of shale and other oil BACK in business by the Cancelling of the Keystone Pipeline by JoeBama. “Hazardous shipping of crude by rail to Houston is back online!” A pipeline is considerably safer and ... faster.). The “wizard” a@@hole of Omaha strikes again using his demonrat machinery in JoeBama, and doubles down by again in 5 months making the US oil import dependent. Amazing. And the inflation, too.

SODIUM-COOLED fast reactor ..... they are out of their minds! Yes than can build it and it will function but it has NONE OF THE WALK-A-WAY INHERENT SAFETY FEATURES on a Gen. IV Molten Salt Reactor. The IMSR being developed by Terrestrial Energy seems to be the most logical and simple overall method I have seen. Don’t let the “perfect” be the enemy of the “good”. www.terrestrialenergy.com

A Sodium fast reactor is a “new kind of reactor”? I guess EBR 1 was a “new kind of reactor” in 1951, Gates’ and Buffet’s reactor not so much. Here’s hoping their reactor doesn’t end up like EBR 1. Maybe there’s a reason Sodium fast reactors never became mainstream. There were a few built, all gone now. Japan has been building one for 30 years, it will never go on line.

I’m not questioning the technology. I’m questioning the evil assholes promoting it. If you think they have humanitarian motives or even profit motives, think again.

The thing with “fast reactors” is they are “breeder reactors” they produce more fuel than they consume. Unfortunately most of the fuel they produce is Plutonium 239, not fun stuff.

I am familiar with the technology, I am not questioning the validity of it. I just don’t want either of those assholes anywhere near having the ability to acquire nuclear waste.

“Natrium reactor”

Sodium-cooled uranium reactor, I think. But “natrium” sounds more benign and greener, so I can see why they would use that name.

Question is...why do it Wyoming?

They probably own the pols there so they can quell the likely eco terror and litigation.

Well, they are, but there are plenty of a$$holes that have invented useful things.

In fact, if Gates pulls this off, it may be the first original product he’s ever produced. Same for Buffett.

Not using a LFTR. Idiots.

Nope, let’s use Uranium/Plutonium. By all means.

This is what makes these two so evil. They COULD use Thorium, which is plentiful, cheap, and the waste product is used in future Thorium LFTRs.

On top, they’re going to use sodium as a coolant. Corrosive - very corrosive.

There is ONE viable small-scale/large output nuclear tech available, and it is Thorium based.

The major drawback of Thorium is that in only produces power.

Existing reactors process Uranium into Plutonium. That’s basically their job. The power is the byproduct, and the pretense for building it.

Gates wants 85% of the rest of us dead; don’t trust any of his projects.

If Gates follows through on this, it will go a long way towards getting him off my sh*t list.

Little known fact, and the reason why the KGB funded the brainless anti-nuke progs to get nuclear power shut down in the US.

Funny thing is that the only real world way to power electric cars is to go nuke bigly. Solar and wind are a joke, and if you are burning fossil fuel to make the electricity for the car you might as well just burn it in the car in the first place. But the walmartians and wokist factions aren't even up to elementary school math to make science! any more than a useless slogan for them.

Huh! Did not know that, but it makes sense. Do you have any sources on the KGB tidbit?

The KGB/GRU funding of the anti-war movements is well known and confirmed by defectors from those organizations.

When you compare the membership lists of the anti-nuke and anti-war/peace orgs, it’s all the same people. For example, Pugwash is considered both anti-war and anti-nuke and definitely trafficked in Soviet propaganda.

Some may consider that a stretch, but that requires a pretty high degree of naivete. In fact, some of the more sincere people complained about the influence of the soviets in these organizations. It is all on Wikipedia (with sources) if you look up anti-war and anti-nuke groups.

We have plenty of power plants but the democrats keep shutting them down!! Deliberately raising electric costs which raises the costs of everything else.
