The surveillance footage shows the moment just after 2:30 p.m. when a brown bear and two cubs walked along a brick wall in the teen’s backyard in Bradbury. Three of the family’s dogs started barking at them. At the time, the family was gardening at another end of the yard when they heard the barking. Videos shows the bear swat at the dogs a few times before the teen runs up.
Video shows her shove the bear, causing the animal to fall backward and off the wall.
The teen suffered a sprained finger and scraped her knee, but she and her mother are thankful those are her only injuries. Hailey said she ran from the wild bear as quickly as she could.
The family said this isn’t the first time seeing a bear or other wild animals around their home in Bradbury since moving there in February. Morinico said bears are usually spotted in the neighborhood around two to three times a week.
But this is the first time any of them have gotten so close to the wildlife, they said. And it may be the last — both Hailey and her mother suggested no one do what she did.

Make sure to securely fasten your trash can lids.
Holy cow! That was amazing!
Pretty stupid. If one of the cubs had jumped into the yard, we’d be talking about the mauling death of a 17 year old girl.
Looked like the bear might have bit her hand, it looks like she yanked her left hand out of the bears mouth right as the bear was falling, but hard to tell
This was a BROWN BEAR!
==8-O
I beleive it was a brown phase black bear
17?.......Is that her age or her size?.............
A couple of those “dogs” look more like snacks if you ask me.
Yeah, as not in the grizzly variety, which are brown bears.
That’s badass. It’s nice to see courage prevail over “being smart” sometimes. A bad plan forcefully executed....
Fearless young lady. Feisty dogs too.

If you pinch your nose shut when you say that it would sound about right. She was brave. Apparently she was smart, it worked. Immediate aggression has a value all of it’s own.
Reporterette loses points for over-acting.
Looks like the bear was about to leap down into their yard.
Better to engage it on the fence, where she had less of a disadvantage, than wait until she would be nearly defenseless.
Yah, my first thought was “this has to be one of those black bears”, known for having retreated in the face of a pissed off domestic cat (I have videos). But, geesh, a brownie!
Yes, it wasn’t a monster. Still, my first thought would be toss a plant pot or rock.
Nervy broad. Good on her.
Way back, Dad driving family on vacation from Mo to relatives in Ca. Stopped in Yellowstone. Cars all over the place as there was a brownie with two cubs. Everyone gets their cameras. But, one Mom didn’t keep eye on 8-yr boy who wanted a better shot. He snuck up on cub and slapped it on the butt — SMACK!! Everyone froze, Mom grabbed chucklehead son and everyone ran for cars. It was like watching a pack of roadrunners in a cartoon for all the dust.
