Destini is currently unable to speak to tell them what happened. But based on what they found in the bathroom and after talking to her friends, they believe the seventh grader...was trying to copy a TikTok video in which someone draws a shape using a flammable liquid on a mirror and then lights it on fire.
Destini brought into the bathroom a candle, lighter and bottle of rubbing alcohol, which they believe exploded in the poorly ventilated space, setting her and other items on fire... When they retrieved Destini's phone, TikTok was still recording video...
Destini has been in the intensive care unit ever since, and her family is hoping she will be able to move to the burn unit soon for further care. She will likely need several more months to recover, including inpatient rehabilitation to regain use of her arm and mobility in her neck, shoulders and fingers...
The family has said their church and Destini's school have been supportive since the incident happened. Andrea Crane, a student at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, has also moved back home to help care for her sister...
Parents can limit content that may not be appropriate for all users by enabling the "restricted mode" in the account.
The safety of younger teens in our community is our priority, and we want to empower families to have an open dialogue about digital safety – including through our Youth Portal, Guardian’s Guide, and Family Pairing features, which enable parents to set age-appropriate content and screentime limits," a spokesperson said in a statement to ABC News. "We take our responsibility seriously as we continue to evolve our policies, apply warning labels to videos, block hashtags or redirect searches, and invest heavily in our people and technology to help keep our community safe."

Think of it as evolution in action.
I am willing to bet she is unable to write, cuz dat don't make no cents.
akin to sticking your tongue on a pole in winter. Kids are idiots from time to time. But let’s now have a dozen new laws. Yippee.
We need stricter cell phone regulations. It’s for the kids ya’know.
While I am not a fan of censorship as far as ideas go, leaving these videos up is beyond irresponsible.
I wouldn't be surprised if she inhaled the fumes and burned her lungs and throat, too.
About twelve years ago I saw a Youtube video on how to reset the “computer” on an epson ink cartridge so that it would not tell the printer it was empty (they still had a fair amount of ink left).
The side of the cartridge had a row of depressed lines stamped into it as well as a small hole. The instructions said to insert the end of a paperclip into the hole and press, and it would “reset”. I tried it. It didn’t work.
So, I took one apart and noticed that the hole was not a hole through the plastic. It was just a hole in the design on the outside of the cartridge.
The video was a hoax. And there used to be a lot of them. The key is that you take this nonsense seriously at your own peril.
Sadly she will now carry the scars of her stupidity all her life.
Poor girl is famous now, but not for the reason she had hoped.
Break up big tech! They are a danger to would be pop sensations everywhere.
TTIUWV... lets see the tape
I find I get much more success with a hammer. Paper clips are just not as satisfying. Still doesn’t work but I feel better about it.
My little sixth grade idiots LIVE and DIE by Tik Tok. Since they have to have their phones on them in class, I enforce a No Social Media rule (and trust me, I am always aware that any time I could end up on posted on a site, so I am always in perfect form.)
But every once in a while, if there’s any free time, and I suddenly see my little morons dancing in the back of the classroom, I immediately get them to delete what they’ve just filmed.
They are brain dead sheep.
Now that is an angle I never considered. I'm so glad my children grew to adulthood before social media took over the world.
I spent the weekend at my brother's campsite and I guess everything there revolves around Facebook from ordering firewood to tracking cornhole tournament standings. They were stunned when I told them I did not have a FB account. It was like I was a relic out of the 20th Century.
If she did not get on that take, will need another.
So we watched a new series on Amazon Prime this weekend Called “PANIC” its about a high school ritual game played by graduating seniors. At the start of each episode they had to have a disclaimer that these were stunts acted out by real professionals and to not try them at home. Of course that is nothing new but with these kids nowadays I doubt that they even care about this disclaimer based upon all of the stupid stunts we read about.
Burned face/upper body, possibly, or induced coma. Why wouldn’t it be possible that she can’t speak or write? It’s just a horrible situation, and those who posted such dangerous videos should be held accountable.
Teenage years the most dangerous years of their life talk to them show the bad results of doing dumb things.
