About twelve years ago I saw a Youtube video on how to reset the “computer” on an epson ink cartridge so that it would not tell the printer it was empty (they still had a fair amount of ink left).
The side of the cartridge had a row of depressed lines stamped into it as well as a small hole. The instructions said to insert the end of a paperclip into the hole and press, and it would “reset”. I tried it. It didn’t work.
So, I took one apart and noticed that the hole was not a hole through the plastic. It was just a hole in the design on the outside of the cartridge.
The video was a hoax. And there used to be a lot of them. The key is that you take this nonsense seriously at your own peril.
I find I get much more success with a hammer. Paper clips are just not as satisfying. Still doesn’t work but I feel better about it.
