I’m only airing this on this public forum because I’ve never encountered it to this degree before. Here’s the story: new neighbors moved in about three months ago in my semi rural, large lot residential neighborhood in the outskirts of my large city. I’ve lived here exactly 14 years now, and in that time I’ve experienced a level of quiet peace that most people would envy. The sounds of nature is about as loud as it gets, discounting the occasional Harley or ricer racing down the nearby thoroughfare.
The neighbors are a large family of, shall we say, south-of-the-border derivation, and have had several loud outdoor after-dark parties, complete with the amplified Hispanic loud-bass music in the maddeningly plodding rhythm that we’ve all heard. They also keep a couple of medium to large dogs outside who bark sporadically throughout the night (they are tethered, which is another issue.) They also brought with them at least one rooster, which begins crowing loudly at 4:30 AM each morning. The parties include a lot of loud drunken yelling in Mexican and very loud laughing and conversation. The bedroom wing of my house is adjacent to our shared property line, about 45 feet away. I hear it all.
Before I go on, I want to make it clear that I am one of the biggest live-and-let -live people on earth. I reached out to them when they moved in to introduce myself and let them know who I was. They were standoffish from the start, however.
The last party, about a month ago, went past midnight, and I finally called the police to lodge a complaint. I figured if they somehow were oblivious to the city ordinances against unreasonable noise, and oblivious to the fact that the noise was disturbing a neighbor, they would need to know about it and make a decision. But, here we go again.
I love farm life and animals and can live with the rooster crowing and occasional dog barks, but this is developing into a persistant pattern. Am I being a “Karen” by reporting them? One part of me wants to be tolerant to a fault. The other part of me says that they have absolutely ZERO consideration for the peaceful enjoyment of their neighbors, so screw them.
Anyone with a similar problem?
Th angel on my left shoulder says maybe if you went over with a six-pack and calmly told them what you’ve written here some kind of accommodation could be worked out.
The devil on my right shoulder says to build an active denial system and melt their guts where they stand.
You’re entitled to reasonable peace and quiet and the law is probably your best first option, first thru then police to enforce ordinances that may exist, otherwise you can sue to abate the nuisance in small claims court, usually without a lawyer. Good luck.
I’ve often fantasized about having a personal, targeted EMP gun that would work on a very limited field. Would be good to nuke the electronics of the loud ghetto blaster sound systems of the cars of the inconsiderate Democrats that you often see around town.

Assuming you’re not alone. You have other neighbors, and may need to find out if they’re annoyed by this as well. A collective letter in the new neighbor’s mailbox, explaining your desire to be welcoming but respect will only be given on a two way street. You’d prefer not call the police on simple noise matters, but there should be a time limit - say 10pm.
If the rest of your neighbors are not bothered by this noise and refuse to get involved - dump your property while the dumping is good. And, be sure to sell it to the very first Hispanic family that can afford to buy it. It’ll help your neighbors understand your perspective better.
No advice, but I am sorry to hear that.
My parents used to have a gorgeous rural view until someone bought the acreage across the highway and started a salvage yard.
From that I learned, if you want to control your view, you have to own it.
But the audio problem may be even worse, since sound can carry so far.

Best thing is usually to talk to them and ask them to tone it down, but it sounds like you had a good reason for not doing so, yeah report them and as the police or whomever respond, it shouldn’t take more than a couple or three complaints to stop it altogether.
I think most have had noisy neighbors. The ones with recurring outside parties and loud music are the worst. Some of them don’t get the hint after you call the cops the first time. If it is bad, you, calling the cops every time they have a party is not unreasonable.
I recommend you NOT go over to talk.
I’ve had experience where when the cops show up & the other party tells lie after lie, (e.g., that I made threats).
Try a white noise generator to mask the sounds.
I’m not sure what the neighbor on the other side is thinking. He may have called the police already. The sound is quieted down.
Do people really have to be told that they are being disturbingly obnoxious? Is self awareness really that lacking in some groups?
Might be a good time to do some target shooting in the back yard.
As far as the rooster goes, check the zoning for your area. They may not allow roosters. For the speakers, if you could somehow find out what system they are using ( or if not, can try by trial and error ). Most systems use an infrared remote. Not sure how close you are to them, but if are close enough you can buy a universal remote and connect to their system, just keep on screwing with their volume or even better turn it off. They will think it is broken.
Keep smiling and acting friendly.

Call the police, and call them again. I went through this with a neighbor’s teen aged kids when they were home alone. The first time I called the cops was about 3:00 am, the second time around midnight, and from that point, if they were partying and it was time for me to turn in, I called the cops. I didn’t even wait to see if they were going to be too loud. And, in many jurisdictions, they start charging the offending party if they respond to often.
It’s galling that it takes just one to spoil the whole neighborhood. Like a thimble of raw sewage in a barrel of fresh drinking water.
I hate to say this, but Latin people as a group do not respect laws and rules. Not all of them, of course. And many redneck whites also do not respect rules. The ones who do not are low class people. But unfortunately, in Latin culture it is also a bit of a habit to ignore the property rights of others. They’ll use your driveway basketball net when you’re not there (or sometimes even when you are there!)...and then get offended when you explain that your driveway is not a community center. Again, some Caucasians do this as well, but it seems to be ingrained in the culture of Latin people. There is no ill intent in it, just different values.
Are they renters? Call their landlord.
Real quick query: did you ever confront them personally about it?
I mean, maybe during the day when things are normal....and ask if they can control the noise or reduce the parties, etc.
