Time for a Coalition of Free American States
American Thinker ^ | 29 May, 2021 | J.B. Shurk

I want to make a suggestion. It is past time for some type of "coalition of free American states."

States have a long history of creating partnerships with each other. Law enforcement task forces, farming cooperatives, river management boards, and collegiate sports conferences all benefit individual states through regional collaborations and are common throughout the United States. It is also common for state attorneys general to coordinate lawsuits against the federal government. Republican governors and Democrat governors meet at party retreats to strategize how best to advance their respective parties' interests. And innumerable lobbying and legal groups work every year to promote the passage of nearly identical statutory language in state legislatures across the country.

What I have in mind is more substantial — the formation of a coalition of free states whose explicit purpose is to reduce the power of the federal government over individual states and their citizens while banding together to lessen the inevitable retaliatory blows the federal government will initiate against the states in response.

Although America's constitutional form of limited government was designed specifically to maximize the liberty of citizens and maximize the power of states at the expense of the federal government, the accumulation of power has flowed only in one direction — away from individual states and individual citizens and toward the national government in D.C. This phenomenon is so natural throughout history that it was a chief concern of the Founding Fathers themselves. Thomas Jefferson, a shrewd student of human nature, was blunt: "Experience hath shewn [sic], that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny."

Let's be honest: the federal government hasn't looked in tip-top shape for a long time, and now it's a train wreck ...

Many states could split up, with the non-radical portion attaching itself to the coalition.

Upstate New York, western Pennsylvania, southern Virginia, eastern Washington and southern Illinois are just a few examples.

LOL

I don’t know about the other states on your list, but WV would fold up and die if it were to forego federal assistance. Remember, in 2016 when Trump received more than 60% of the WV vote, this state also elected a lifelong RAT as Governor* and in 2018 reelected another lifelong RAT as Senator.

The whole Red State - Blue State metric is ridiculous.

*.....shortly after assuming office, Justice switched his brand to R out of political expediency.

Some people are voting with their feet and moving to free states. Some may need some coaching so they don’t vote for what they escaped.

That is a very real danger. Most of the low level "liberals" are actually just sheeple that have been manipulated and indoctrinated by their leftist masters. They believe the propaganda coming at them 24x7 by the leftist media.

Then things in their socialist paradise get so bad they pull up and move to someplace that is well run. Unfortunately, they still believe the BS they've been fed - they think all the ills of the place they just left were due to all those bad old freedom and liberty loving conservatives...and so they set about voting for what they've been conditioned to believe...

Would help if they got off the fedgov teats. How can you fight fedgov power if you're on the take from fedgov?

Hard to say we have free states when almost every state puts up with a big criminal city, like St Louis. MO can’t even seem to get rid of the criminal of a prosecutor, Kim Gardner. She’s broken rules and even laws, yet she remains.

Exactly...the concept of ‘Free Counties’ might make more sense than ‘Free States’. Tennessee, for example...Davidson County (Nashville) has little in common with the mountain counties of East Tennessee.

It’s always encouraging when a conservative has clearly never read the Constitution...
"No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, ... enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State."

Your point, based on the assertion someone, presumably the author, has never read the constitution, has won a standing ovation from the anti-MAGA's.

Beyond that, from the article: "States have a long history of creating partnerships with each other"; and, I will add "especially the citizens of a state at the political party level".

I suspect there are people being paid to move to free States for the express purpose of transforming them into socialist sh*tholes like the States they’re coming from!

The cultural institutions from which our values grew has been nearly destroyed.

The fuse was lit on October 3, 1965 (see below). That was the beginning of the end. We are now witnessing the END OF THE END!

I rarely invoke the Article V ping list for an article that doesn't concern a possible Convention of the States. But this article discusses every possibility for the restoration of federalism except for a convention.

The omission has piqued my interest.

Adroitly--new word to me, I like it.

It's time for a "coalition of the willing" to come together again.

Sounds like a Civil War reboot.

The idea is right but doesn’t go far enough. We need a Confederation of Free States. A union of states with similar beliefs and standards. A counter-balance to federal naked power-grab. I believe we need a Conference of Free States to be held in Texas. This league should set up a shadow Government to stand, as Back benchers to the Progressive Dominated Federal Democratic Republic of Nancy Pelosi and Obama’s catspaw Biden/Harris. This league should vote in Donald Trump as its President—to speak for the people of this free state confederacy. Let the Federalists see that not everyone will be silent, woke, or bow down to China.

I believe the Free states should include Break new away states, Like East Oregon Aka “Jefferson” and North Nevada Aka “Washo,” As well as East California Aka “Sunkissed”

Maybe they need a declaration of Independence? A contract with the Citizens as to why they need to form and what they want. BUT, be warned. The Federals will get support from Canada, Mexican Cartels and Red China. Who would support the Free States?

By the time a convention has the required number of states to call it, the Communist regime will quash it by arrests or the military if deemed necessary. The Left has won its Revolution, or at least got inside the door. They are not going to give it up for something that can be stopped by whatever means.

Maybe, but we'll never know until patriots give it their best.

Pause for a moment and consider the uproar if Donald Trump supported an Article V end run around The Swamp.

The enemies of liberty will certainly attempt to sabotage our efforts, but state legislators know as well as any Freeper that an Orwellian state is just around the corner.

I say our state legislators haven't been tested. It is time to determine their mettle.
