Time for a Coalition of Free American States
American Thinker ^ | 29 May, 2021 | J.B. Shurk

I want to make a suggestion. It is past time for some type of "coalition of free American states."

States have a long history of creating partnerships with each other. Law enforcement task forces, farming cooperatives, river management boards, and collegiate sports conferences all benefit individual states through regional collaborations and are common throughout the United States. It is also common for state attorneys general to coordinate lawsuits against the federal government. Republican governors and Democrat governors meet at party retreats to strategize how best to advance their respective parties' interests. And innumerable lobbying and legal groups work every year to promote the passage of nearly identical statutory language in state legislatures across the country.

What I have in mind is more substantial — the formation of a coalition of free states whose explicit purpose is to reduce the power of the federal government over individual states and their citizens while banding together to lessen the inevitable retaliatory blows the federal government will initiate against the states in response.

Although America's constitutional form of limited government was designed specifically to maximize the liberty of citizens and maximize the power of states at the expense of the federal government, the accumulation of power has flowed only in one direction — away from individual states and individual citizens and toward the national government in D.C. This phenomenon is so natural throughout history that it was a chief concern of the Founding Fathers themselves. Thomas Jefferson, a shrewd student of human nature, was blunt: "Experience hath shewn [sic], that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny."

Let's be honest: the federal government hasn't looked in tip-top shape for a long time, and now it's a train wreck ...

Some people are voting with their feet and moving to free states. Some may need some coaching so they don’t vote for what they escaped.

This is an excellent idea. Strength in numbers, coordination in policy and action, the nucleus of future polity. Someone needs to propose it to the National Governors Association for sponsorship in each State’s legislature. The time is now.

Nah, Texas just needs to leave this failed experiment called America. No more games, time to go.

This is the kind of thinking that we need if important concepts like Liberty are going to survive. The cultural institutions from which our values grew has been nearly destroyed. The communists will not be stopped by rugged individualists rationally pursuing their own economic self interests. We are not in an Ayn Rand novel.

The current structure of the “United” States is not working. There is already upheaval; there will be a lot more, no matter what. The people who don’t want it “fundamentally transformed” are targeted for elimination by the elites or whatever we are calling them. Those people who are not “woke” are going to need their own spaces. With borders. That are enforced.

Great idea. The Free States have a common enemy that seeks to isolate each state under the principles of Alinsky.

Can’t believe you forgot South Dakota...

The ONLY state that did not enact any mask mandate nor lockdowns..

In my opinion, THE BEST STATE!

Don’t forget Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Louisiana, and Missouri (we’ll let the Alinsky states have St. Louis). Probably a few other states, too.

North Carolina would be on that list if the dictator Roy Cooper had not obviously cheated to win in 2016 and for some reason won much more handily in 2020. Thank goodness for the Republican Senate and Legislature!

... a Coalition of Free American States"

(A drive-by response from a poster that hasn't read the article:)

Only where the sole purpose of the coalition is to unite on an agenda, mobilize, enter and recapture the "non-Free American States", politically speaking, of course.

Any coalition with a "let live" attitude that stands apart would appear to serve the goal of the anti-MAGA's - which clearly includes initially dividing our nation.

As soon as Georgia tidies up a bit, I think it will also step forward.

Children are already divided into those that can think and the ones wearing masks. Public school racism or private education. It will not be pretty when the racists can’t figure out how to add a column of numbers.

That’s about 16 so far. Could be a formidable coalition.

It’s always encouraging when a conservative has clearly never read the Constitution:

Article I, Section 10, Clause 3

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, ... enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State.
