Wildlife officials in Colorado shared photos of a rare piebald squirrel spotted in a tree near Denver.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Northeast Region said in a Twitter post that Jerry Baines spotted the unusually-colored squirrel west of Denver and snapped photos.
The piebald squirrel has normal brown and gray fur on its tail and underside, but white fur on its head and back.
"That is a genetic mutation causing varying amounts of white hair. Some can be almost pure white while others carry just patches of white," the department tweeted.
Sure, we’ve got good news coming out of the AZ and GA audits and the media is all: “Look! Squirrel!”
Piebald? You sure it isn’t a pinto? Or maybe it’s an appaloosa, I can never tell them apart.
That is beautiful! As one who lives, literally, in the woods (my husband, God rest him, would say...we are always camping :) I have seen piebald squirrels only twice. Once a grey with a white back, and once a grey with solid black sides. Took photos and put on my FB. All my family thought they were just too cool!
Why anyone would give a damn about a creepy little tree rat....and still call for the killing of babies in the womb...beats me.

Now that I think about it, I saw a piebald deer once too. Was driving down the interstate and there was a herd of them on the side of a hill. One looked like an appaloosa with white butt and back legs. Only one I’ve ever seen like that here in Virginia.

i saw a piebold doe eating in a field along the road and thought cool... her ears were brown and the rest white.
didn’t see it for months, and finally driving home along the field, she came sprinting out in front of the truck in front of me. i will never see her again, unless the truck drive took the carcass home to stuff.
it was pretty cool to see.

A white squirrel near us managed to live three years, impressive as the color stands out to predators. Also saw a piebald deer a couple times, looks like a big goat hanging out in the woods.

The “Bald Eagle” is actually a Piebald Eagle having its name reduced to Bald Eagle. Doesn’t mean it is bald but that it has two colors.
I have two colors. Gray and ‘none’...................
