If America had not done anything about Covid it would be basically over now.
The primary reason the globe avoided catastrophe when SARS and MERS broke out is that both diseases aren’t very contagious until the patient is very sick and shedding lots of virus. Ebola is like this. It’s SUPER lethal but more difficult to catch because people have to be pretty sick to spread the disease. If SARS or MERS were as infectious as COVID is in its early stages, we really would have been screwed because Paul is correct, it’s significantly more lethal than COVID.
You take the genetic properties that makes COVID more infectious and insert those properties into either MERS or SARS, and then you really do have a pandemic easily on the scale of 1918.
Dawning my tinfoil hat: I think China released COVID as means for population control. A communist country with billions of people to feed is a problem and the old and infirm who are unproductive are more likely to die.

The motivation behind these types of “experiments” given the potential risks is rooted in the left's desire to take control of everything by whatever means necessary. Stealing the election from the rightful leader of the free world and altering the balance of power in this country was child's play. Covid obviously played some role in this, although more in the vein of never let a good crisis go to waste.
The release of Covid after it was altered in a lab was likely a screw up but do not think that the left has not been paying attention to the amount of power it has allowed petty dictators to grab and the suppression of people's rights all across the world. I could never have imagined what we have seen in the past year. Just like the “gateway drug” phenomena, power hungry leftists want more and more. It is not a question of if a laboratory altered pathogen will devastate the world... it is a question of when. And it could be very soon. In the sick minds of leftists they will be doing mother nature a favor. And no one will be safe. That is the dystopian future we now have ahead of us.
