A tweet by NBA legend Dominique Wilkins saying an Atlanta restaurant discriminated against him Saturday was shared on social media thousands of times within a couple of hours, but Le Bilboquet in Buckhead says it was enforcing its dress code.

The Atlanta Hawks superstar and Basketball Hall of Famer tweeted: “In my many years in the world, I’ve eaten at some of the greatest restaurants in the world, but never have I felt prejudice or been turned away because of the color of my skin, until today in #atlanta In @LeBilboquetAtl.” He ended the tweet with the hashtag #turnedawaybecauseimblack.

I thought Parisian bistros were supposed to be more casual and less expensive. This is not haute cuisine. Good bistro food is probably cheaper in Paris, France.

The fact is it is their business and the they have every right to have a dress code, a snobby attitude, and indifferent service. You may or may not choose to frequent there establishment. That choice is your’s. The rules of the establishment, their’s.
It has been my good fortune to dine around the world in all manner of establishment. Invariably the best establishments with regard to quality were those that made the guest feel welcomed and comfortable. Some even had dress codes. Having shown up one time sans coat and tie at an establishment that required said items, I was discreetly offered a fitting coat and tie. No muss, no fuss, no bother. There is no substitute for class. Class is merely treating one’s clientele in a gentlemanly manner. What is the hallmark of a gentleman? Going out of one’s way to not embarrass another.
