At the height of the frenzy of China’s Cultural Revolution, victims were eaten at macabre “flesh banquets”, but 50 years after the turmoil began, the Communist Party is suppressing remembrance and historical reckoning of the era and its excesses.
Launched by Mao in 1966 to topple his political enemies after the failure of the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution saw a decade of violence and destruction nationwide as party-led class conflict devolved into social chaos.
Teenaged Red Guards beat teachers to death for being “counter-revolutionaries” and family members denounced one another while factions clashed bitterly for control across the country.

It’s been going on for a long time.
Among the writings of Albert Fish (yes, *that* Albert Fish) that were examined prior to his execution, there was a journal he wrote about sailing to China in 1894 as a Merchant Seaman, and seeing and hearing about cannibalism going on over there.
Quite a few scholars have wondered if that might have been one of the things that made him eventually want to try cooking and eating children for himself...
How any of the Chinese came out of the Cultural Revolution with even a shred of their sanity is beyond me.
Horrible, Horrible time in China’s History.
Remember this crap every time they talk about giving up our guns… Same assholes, different time.
History? They still eat baby fetuses…
Russia also has a cannibal island, for when people were shipped to gulags.
Is it going on now with the Uyghurs and other “undesirables?”
There is some video floating around “out there” that some say is very convincing.

Remember this crap every time they want to tell us how evil America is.
Cannibalism itself wouldnt have had any real effect on the national psyche. Its a Chinese story repeated over and over again. During the wars of times past men from the whole of the rural areas were conscripted and killed in battle. With the crops then failed those alive were left to do what was necessary.
Of course this time it seems it was nore ritualized at least by some. While that may have made it more abhorent to part of the population it also may have made it even more acceptable to others and that certainly would have had an effect.

A great first person account of the horrors of the cultural revolution in China is “Life and Death in Shanghai” by Nien Chang. took What the book reveals, beyond the horror, is how many of the followers of the revolution really didn’t believe in it, but just were willing to go along and do whatever they were told if they thought they were on the “winning” side. It shows how the majority of people are without any core values or beliefs.
Coming soon if the dems have their way.
Careful what you order in a chicom restaurant!
The book Scarlet Memorial was published even earlier.
