Facebook refused to remove an attack ad falsely linking Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar to Hamas, even after her aides said similar claims had resulted in death threats to the lawmaker in the past.
The ad was produced by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the pro-Israel lobbying group, and showed the face of the Minnesota lawmaker, who is Muslim, superimposed onto rockets fired by Gaza militants toward Israel.
"When Israel targets Hamas, Rep. Omar calls it an act of terrorism," the caption said. The ad is still live on Facebook.
The ad seemed to be based on a tweet by Omar that said Israel's killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza constituted an act of terrorism. Israel has said it takes precautions to narrowly target Hamas and other militant targets in Gaza, but many civilians have been reported killed there by Israeli airstrikes, including dozens of children.

Omar's office told The Washington Post that it had contacted Facebook to request the removal of the ad, saying it was inaccurate and could lead to death threats against Omar.
Facebook told Omar's office, and later confirmed to The Post, that it would not remove the ad because it did not violate its policies.

The refusal of Facebook to remove the ad is likely to fuel more criticism of the platform for failing to do more to remove hate speech and misinformation.
Democratic Reps. Pramila Jayapal and David Cicilline last August urged the platform to do more to remove election misinformation and stop far-right militias from using it to organize and propagandize.

Uh....yeah.
The death of human shields used by terrorists is the terrorists’ fault.
Not the opponents of terrorists.
Maybe they are calling it a “fake” ad because the photo sounds like a collage image and therefore they are calling it a “fake photo” but a collage isn’t intended to deceive a viewer into thinking it is all one original photo. It is a combination of images together to convey a message.
Didn’t she roll her eyes at the mention of Al Qaida?
And yet the Democrats are pushing for blowback against all conservatives and Trump supporters because of “1-6-21!”
Ask Tom what is being down to eliminate “Gaza militants” who’ve launched THOUSANDS of deadly missiles into Israel in the past couple of weeks?
Silence = violence. Your Islamonazi brothers started a war and there isn’t enough being done to prosecute those who engaged in it.
HAMAS is the problem.
Yeah, you right.
Unless she has explicitly condemned Hamas to put some clear blue water between her views and those of Hamas then the comparison is a fair one.
You cannot condemn Israel’s actions whilst dismissing those of Hamas and not be considered giving your tacit approval of Hamas’ actions.
Judging from what I’m seeing on lots of other sites, such as FARK.com, Omar has a *LOT* of support right now, and she is fully aware of that. Good or bad, she has set a precedent, and my prediction is that the Anti-Israel/Anti-Jew hate-boner is going to be much more mainstream, and much more proudly displayed from here, on out.
Someone should do a video of her speaking with that production number: “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” from Cabaret playing in the background.
