When it comes to taking stock of Sen. Ron Johnson's (R-Wis.) propensity for peddling nonsense, it's probably best to rely on separate categories.
The Wisconsin Republican has, for example, repeatedly made ridiculous and potentially dangerous comments about COVID-19, vaccines, and the threats posed by the pandemic. He's also been cavalier about his indifference to an FBI warning that he was "a target of Russian disinformation" during the last election cycle. He's denied ever having "talked about the election being stolen," despite ample evidence pointing in the opposite direction. There's also the problem, of course, of the senator relying on ugly rhetoric about immigration when discussing what he sees as efforts to "remake the demographics of America."
But one of my favorite categories is Ron Johnson's nonsense related to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Hill reported this morning:
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) suggested on Wednesday that the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 was not an insurrection but a largely "peaceful protest." ... "Even calling it an insurrection, it wasn't," Johnson said during an appearance on Fox News's "Ingraham Angle."
No, of course not. All we saw was a violent group of armed radicals storming the seat of the U.S. government in the hopes of blocking the results of an American election and preventing the rightful president from taking office. Why would anyone call that an "insurrection"? Or for that matter, why would anyone have the audacity to describe the deadly riot as anything other than a "peaceful protest"?

I think Ron Johnson is right...a full and public investigation needs to be done.
The partisan farce that they have planned is not going to be a real investigation, although I think that some GOPers voted for it hoping that it would in some way bring out some inconvenient facts such as the involvement of Antifa, etc. But it won’t, and another, honest investigation needs to be done.
Steve Benen is a lying piece of excrement.
“All we saw was a violent group of armed radicals storming the seat of the U.S. government”
In the modern era, “insurrections” involve firearms, and he certainly implies firearms with that statement. But there were none brandished by the protestors. There is no video of protestors with arms at the Capitol that I know of.
The protestors were from the firearms-owning half of perhaps the most well-armed citizenry on the planet, yet somehow they failed to bring any to so-called “insurrection”?
The use of that term is complete agitprop and intellectually dishonest at the highest level. It should be challenged any time it is used.
If that is proven, it should be considered a supreme act of mercy that they left anyone alive.
No you didn't Stevie, and you know it! What a straight up liar.
The first three paragraphs are nothing more than ad-hominem attack in opinion form, with no evidence. Then, once they’ve discredited him to “the choir”, they go on the attack on this particular issue.
From the article: “All we saw was a violent group of armed radicals storming the seat of the U.S. government in the hopes of blocking the results of an American election and preventing the rightful president from taking office.”
Then maybe you need to take off your blinders and see, because that doesn’t describe what happened.
But then, this is MSNBC, even lower on the respectability scale than CNN. So I can’t be accused of ad-hom, I offer the article itself as proof.
If it was an ‘insurrection’ they would have brought their guns with them.
After all, how many ‘insurrections’ are done without weapons?
So 400 people try to take down the government...and that’s an insurrection?? Not one shot was fired by the villains...and the only person killed...was assassinated by a black LEO.
Johnson failed miserably “investigating” Biden while the GOP controlled the Senate. I wouldn’t expect any better here. Just some GOTV red meat for the midterms and nothing of substance from the useless GOP.
There is no trustworthy institution to do it.
So long as the House and Senate have to define it then how can any such investigation not be a partisan farce?
How do you think the Berlin Wall came down?
MSNBC regular (pos).
“How do you think the Berlin Wall came down?”
Ok, you win that one, for now.
Question #2: How many insurrections end when the police tell the insurrections to go home for dinner - and they do just that?
“ After all, how many ‘insurrections’ are done without weapons?”
Let’s ask Ghandi.

“Let’s ask Ghandi.”
Any answers to my follow-up question about going home for dinner?
The DDR opened the gates to exit travel
When the populace heard those who walked out couldnâÂÂt return, 2,000,000 returned to protest at the wall.
“ Any answers to my follow-up question about going home for dinner?”
I didn’t see them. Sorry.
