The Department of Defense confirmed Wednesday that the overwhelmingly unnecessary National Guard mission at the Capitol will end this coming Sunday.
During a briefing, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the deployment is expected to wrap up on May 23.
“We have received no request to extend it,” he said, referring to the mass deployment around the Capitol and Washington D.C. following the January 6 riot.
Though the reasoning and accusations were baseless with no real proof or explanation given to the public, in March, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin overruled the chief of the National Guard Bureau, ordering 2,280 troops to remain at the U.S. Capitol. This, however, was a slight decrease from the original 5,000 troops that were positioned following the riot, with additional fencing also put up around the premises.
“I’m not aware of any – any – threat to justify a continued presence today around the Capitol, much less into the fall,” Sen. Tom Cotton said in a Fox News interview in February, adding that he believed the Guard was deployed for political purposes.
Sen. James Inhofe told reporters in March that keeping the Guard in Washington was “outrageous because that’s not their function. It’s not their mission.”
Even democrats expressed concern over the mission.

Will DoD design a special medal for those deployed?
Finally, the door is open for the GRAND INSURRECTION lead by the Right! ( sarc.)
We will now end the possibility that Nancy Pelosi would actually get the crew served machine guns she wanted mounted at the capitol, (the Conservative Right boogey men were after her.)
Make no mistake though. Trump supporters are coming for ya Nancy and Chuck. Keep your bolt bags ready.
Like a golden jackass medal with additional bullschnit clusters for having to sleep on the floor?
We should start posting about an upcoming protest against Pelosi just to trigger her into calling back troops...
𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘋𝘰𝘋 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘢 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘥?
I believe that already happened, the DCNG inauguration support ribbon. Whether or not there’s and actual medal equivalent is beyond me.
As Command-In-Chief, she has every right to do so ... (again)[/s]
The last good protest was against Kerry in 2004.
I think that is going to go as the most “Opps, I forgot” ribbon in US military history. I can’t imagine anyone but the worst kind of butt-sucking brownnosers wanting that in their fruit salad.
Just more theater. The Capitol was never in danger, even on January 6th. But if the National Guard had been deployed THEN, as they were on standby to do, then none of the ensuing “insurrection” would have occurred.
Coulda, shoulda, woulda.
All part of the orchestrated narrative. Nancy Pelosi, stand up.
I’ve never worn anything like full mess dress, only service dress, but if I’m not mistaken for certain ribbons there is a medal analog to be worn on mess dress. I can’t help but come to the conclusion that this is one of those ribbons that will get an actual medal variant for mess dress use because it seems like we’re all living in a Babylon Bee posting these days. Also it seems that whomever is in the position to make such a determination will make it based on politics or career advancement.
So the troops leave and the fence stays ... right ?
I think they just proposed a sh** load of money for security improvements.
They need to keep them there. It correctly shows that it’s a third world government.
Cue the pictures of the Nork/old Soviet generals festooned with all sorts of medals and badges.
What an absolute waste of money this was. It also made our lawmakers look like a bunch of two-bit tyrants surrounding themselves with the military.
The fence will be “modified” and the troops will be replaced with “security personnel.”
The prog revolutionary occupational government (PROG) will continue as all third-world banana republics do, hiding behind thugs.
.
They are STILL there???
p
Overwhelmingly unnecessary National Guard mission at the Capitol.
Democrats say the will have the police arrest the shadows that have been following them.
