Hello FReepers. I am curious about your favorite folder knife. I'm looking for recommendations from people who carry for every day use. Preferably made in the USA and want to stay under $100 but will consider higher.
Do not want a cheap stainless blade. Need something that sharpens to shaving level.
Thank-you in advance.
That is a sweet looking knife. Out of stock, but sweet.
I have a lot of folders. This is my favorite.
I like a plain old stockman
Nice. Is there a model name?
That makes 4 or 5 recommendations for Kershaw.
Just watched a video about the Kershaw! I’m gonna get me one of those!
I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion Leek clipped to my front pocket pretty much every waking hour. It’s nice and thin, quick opening and holds a razor sharp edge. I am on my 4th one as I occasionally forget when I am flying to leave it behind or put in a checked bag. Sometimes you have time to take care of it, sometimes you risk missing a flight. It’s small. More a tool than a weapon, but in a pinch... For something a bit larger I prefer the Leek’s bigger brother, the Shallot, but that one’s discontinued and most other Kershaws are now made in China.
Stabby slicy ping.
I’ve been carrying the same made in USA Schrade for 35 years.
Don’t know if they are still made here, though.
Boker Plus Kalashnikov AK-74 is what my family all carry. Good blade (AUS-8), a workhorse, and spring-opening for $40. Made in Germany, tho. https://www.bladehq.com/item—Boker-Kalashnikov-74—103
Benchmade - recommended to me by a Seal who claimed they won’t break.
Carbon steel.
I would use it to cut steel strapping bands.
Had it since the mid '70's.
I should note that I also carry an inexpensive DeWalt utility folder, in addition to a 30 year old Leatherman. The Sebenza is more for slicey-dicey. And you can shave with it.
Kershaw Link is USA made. I’m fond of Spyderco and am carrying a Paramilitary 2 in my pocket right now - but it is well over $100. The Ontario Rat 1 is made in Taiwan - a US ally - and hard to beat for its price ($25-45). Comes in either AUS-8 (which I really like) or D2 steel.
Swiss Army knife.
Cold Steele Voyager XL, (old style, Japanese made) They do not make them any more. Fortunately, I looked for sales and stocked up so I have spares.
They new ones are made in Taiwan. Not nearly as good, IMHO. The older version weighs 5.2 ounces. The new one, 7.2 ounces. I have carried one for a couple of decades.
Very good and useful knives. I have several, have carried them a fair bit.
Yep! I’ve been carrying 3 blade Schrade’s since I got my first one in 56 or 57. You’ll never catch me with a dull knife.
Oddly enough, I also have a CRKT M16 that I would contend is a shade or two lower on the scale from my Kershaws, yet this thing just keeps working and holds an edge like few other knives.
